Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021: Lifetime License for $49

One weird thing about this purchase is, I didn't get the Teams standalone app like I did with the Home & Student version...,
however, I do have the Teams install-on-demand widget thingy on the Taskbar. Go figure! 🤷‍♂️

I have sensitive information on my laptop and I don't want to download Office from a .torrent or something. If I get this Office license, is there a way for me to download a legit copy of office directly from Microsoft?
I just signed into outlook.com with my MS email, top LH corner > couple of clicks > install Office.

But this depends greatly on what version of Office you want/have, so I'm not sure whether thus applies to "offline" (non subscription) versions.

You need to weight the advantages (cost comparisons) of a genuine subscription license with a genuine non-subscription license. One day, the non-subscription will be out of date, and a bit further down the track will not be supported. The cheaper yearly-renewable subscription offer will give you a current up-to-date version year.

Teams came pre-installed with my laptop.
You reckon I should uninstall it as well before installing Office ProPlus?

EDIT: Purchased the key, added it into my MS account, recognized by MS, and office Pro Plus was added to my account.
I'm downloading the offline installer right now(4.2GB).

Well, in actually fact, subscription or single payment, you never own the software anyway. All you are doing - one way or the other - is paying for a license to use it. Most EULA/terms and conditions/etc indicate this in so many different ways.

Assuming these are "genuine" licenses, I think the $49 upfront cost will more than pay for itself until Office 2021 is no longer supported versus a subscription to Office 365. At that time you can always opt for the subscription. Especially as a home user, there's only so much that a software publisher can do to an office suite other than keep it running with the latest OS other than adding fluff. I don't expect Office to have too many breathtaking new features in the next few years.

Don't be too sure of that. New "features" started back in 1995 with Microsoft Bob, then Rover, Scuzz the rat and then along came the ultimate pest, MS Office's Mr Clippy.

Windows and Office annoyance iterations have continued right through to recent versions of MS Office with the annoying pop-up that wanted to take you back to where you left off every time you (re)opened a file.

One could be led to believe that MS have a secret back-room of programmers who sole job it is to think up add-on "features" for no other reason than to just annoy users !!

Well, as somebody mentioned above, with any software you don't actually own it, but rather you have a license to use it. Hence the reason they can stipulate how many installs you can use, etc.

As far as the subscription goes, you have to evaluate your situation to make the call. For example, there was a time when I needed the Office Professional products on 2 computers. My desktop and my wife's laptop.. For a 100% legit license from Microsoft, the cost was in the $450 range, PER COPY. So, at 2 copies...I was looking at nearly $900. Ouch.

Instead, I went with Office365. For $99 a year, I was able to install on my wife's laptop, and my desktop. So, on day 1 I had 1/9 the total investment into things, and I got 1TB of OneDrive space and wife got 1TB of OneDrive space. We were already considering upgrading our DropBox membership to get more dropbox space and that was $119 a year at the time for 1TB. So, for less than we would have paid for Dropbox alone for 1TB, we technically got 2TB AND Microsoft Office to boot.

I'm now about 5 years into things, so I have spent ($99.99 x 5) 499.95. Still less than I would have spent above had I bought 2 full standalone copies on day 1. And tomorrow I can cancel my subscription since I don't actually have a need for Outlook any more at home nor Access. I could go without Microsoft office pretty easily. Unfortunately with the stand alone, I would have been out that $900. But I'm keeping Office 365 regardless because we are all making use of our 1TB of one drive space that we get with our accounts. That alone is worth $99 a year to me.

All in all, I've felt the Office 365 a no-brainer for me. We have it installed on lots of devices. (3 desktops, 3 laptops (2 of which are Macs). I've given my dad one of my seats (so he gets Office and 1TB of OneDrive). I'm always on the latest version without having to buy another copy. I don't have to take any chances on low cost, potentially shady keys. And I get more cloud storage space than I need.

But I can totally understand the person who just uses Word and Excel, needs 1 copy and sees no point in Cloud storage. They would be better off with 1 copy of Office Home and Student.....It's not even a debate.

Others have seen this at other sites. But it just showed up on Ghacks which is a good omen.

With Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you get the latest Office as well as 1 TB per user for 6 users. Depending on how much your family needs, you can have multiple accounts for yourself, so multiple TBs of cloud storage at your disposal.

At the current rates, it is the best cloud storage option in my opinion.

If this seller is selling volume license keys, at some point MS will catch on and will shut them down. I'd be concerned about having my MS account tied to it.
Microsoft is well aware of all these and they actually allow such things to proliferate so there are more users of Microsoft products. So don't worry.

Agreed. And Microsoft doesn't mind one bit (they even have a doc on this) if you share your subscription with other people. So, spend $99 a year, use 1 copy for yourself, see if you can find 5 friends who might be interested and split the cost. $99/6 = $16.50 per person, per year.

OK but for a SINGLE individual !!!

As one says -- Risk to Reward ratio. If these licenses start getting blocked then expect posts all over the Internet.

My whole take on this stuff is unless you are a "Corporate user" who needs a lot of integrated collaboration / teams type stuff how much has really changed since Office 2010 -- OK some security but WD is really good these days.

If you want to try these cheap deals -- nothing wrong - but DO pay with a CREDIT not a DEBIT card as if the product fails you can get your money back (At least in US, CAN, EU/EEA,US,NZ,JPN even RUS etc)

Not sure about UK as they for one reason or another left the EU so their laws which seem to benefit rich bankers to the exclusion of their lower paid tax paying citizens might leave the Banks in the clear so from UK might not be a good idea.

I'd suggest UK citizens buying this stuff use an EU Bank issued credit card to protect themselves as well as the main European supplier appears to be from Germany and then they are protected by EU/EEA legislation.

Cheers
jimbo

Not sure about UK as they for one reason or another left the EU so their laws which seem to benefit rich bankers to the exclusion of their lower paid tax paying citizens might leave the Banks in the clear so from UK might not be a good idea).
Same laws here

Although there is only one of me, I did the math and for my four computers at home and my teaching computer at the Sr. Center, Microsoft 365 is the way to go for me. At $99.00 per year, it costs a whopping $20.00 per year per computer.

Today, Office Home and Student standalone costs $149, so for my five computers, it would cost $750. As you say, it's a no-brainer for me.

If I only had one computer, I would consider the standalone, but there's still the "always up-to-date" perk I really like. Not that I'll ever use it all, but I still like it.

If it's just you, you can do the $69 copy of Office 365, and use it on all of your computers.....you don't need the $99 family version. You can install Office 365 on an unlimited number of devices.
