i selected fast to ultrafast on motherboard start up went from 27secs to 12 secs what does it do ? this is just a question since this forum has being so helpful

Changing that setting in the BIOS on the Gigabyte z790 aorus elite ax, is supposed to speed up the boot time? Is it not making a difference?

it probably disregards certain processes which can alternatively kick in after login, like USB detection etc

“Ultra fast Boot”, being different to Fast Boot on your Gigabyte, prevents the Gigabyte splash screen.
USB device detection is disabled by ultra fast boot (could be a problem)
There is also a slight chance that the boot mode might be so fast that you will be unable to enter your BIOS due to the settings that are changed by selecting Ultra Fast Boot.

If this happens, you would probably need to reset your CMOS so default settings are re-enabled for the BIOS, so you can see the BIOS option again at boot start.
