MS new media player


Windows Media Player 12 is included in clean installs of Windows 10 as well as upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. DVD playback isn't included in Windows 10 or Windows 8.1. Go to the DVD playback for Windows page to find out how to add DVD playback.

According to ms, Are we talking about another new version or..lol

If it's included in win 10 or upgrade to it, it explains why I have it on my win 10 desktop but not on my Win 11 laptop. I have since learned that the media players are not allowed shipped with windows 11 in Europe because of MS's monopoly position.

Yeah 10 also means 11, It shipped with mine as soon as it was available..so not sure whats going on with you're end

Unless it's an 'N' version of Windows then Media Players are allowed. Even the legacy player is available.

after uninstalling the k lite media mega pack, the context menu has left with extra entries of uninstalled software. I am googling to know how to remove it.

Sure , when choosing " Openen" , it opens in the Mediaplayer ( standard for mp4 )
Choosing "Open with " gives more options , dont like the option " Open with previous version of Windows Mediaplayer " ........( bla, bla !)
Want to change it in " Windows Mediaplayer " ........

are the leftover files of the KLite media player mega pack only there? I mean in the registry. are there other places that might contain leftover files?

Your solution will work , but its too easy ..............must be another solution somehow ........

Just found the bandit ; its the @wmploc.dll,-102 .......located in ; Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\MuiCache\be\18012CD5 .
If I change it from "previous version of Windows Mediaplayer" to "Windows Mediaplayer " ( in this @wmploc.dll ) the problem is solved . Will give me a nice looking contextmenu again !

The problem is ; after some time it will change again to the "previous version of Windows Mediaplayer "
So the question is ; HOW to keep my setting !!

Look at the difference , after changing this @wmploc.dll ...............
