MS new media player

Just bought a new Acer Swift laptop (WIN 11). Installation and setup finished, but the new media player is not there. Is it supposed to be?
Did a quick search on the internet and there's a lot of instructions about opening setup-apps-add optional functions and selecting the new Media player. But there's no new media player option in my list. Only the old media player legacy. Dont MS want us to use the new media player or what is this?

I had a similar problem. I went to the Microsoft store and search for Media Player. The one to select is the one with and orange circle and a white arrowhead in the middle. Downloaded easily and works as I want it. You could try that and I hope it works for you.

Correct. This is the "old" one called media player legacy and is preinstalled on my pc.

I’ve seen no news from @Brink regarding the “New Media Plater” having been rolled out to the general releases of Windows or included in any updates (that I know of)

Do you have a "N" edition of Windows 11 installed by chance? If so, they do not include any media features by default.

Windows 11 Home 23H2

Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off >
> Media Features, Tick box.

Settings > Privacy & security > Videos > Media Player, On.

The new one is the black circle with coloured ring, and as already mentioned in the MS Store.

This assumes standard Windows 11 Home with no system mods.

I cannot remember whether this came in an update or not, however it does not matter.
I have both on Windows 10, and Windows 11 where the Windows Media Player legacy hides in All Apps > Windows Tools.

It's a very good thing he's gone.
Use portable vlc, or if hdr monitor then smplayer (but you need to customize the configs)

- If it's not official offered, why is it available on MS Store?

I've been using this new media player on my Desktop for months (dont know how it ended up there). It has everything I need. Two most important options, streaming to my TV and the possibility to easy load external subtitles.

Im pretty sure i've been using the new media player since win 11 launched, Am i wrong? I dont remember ever using a legacy one on 11, Always been as is since 11 came out. I use VLC though as its generally just simple better.

Maybe Im wrong and have confused the two. I didn't think the “new media player” or at least I thought there was one that hadn't made it past insiders yet
