If I save my first item, it gets saved here.

If I remove the Recycle Bin, the first item saved goes where the Bin was. All subsequent items saved are placed neatly below the previous one right to the bottom of the Desktop.

What I would like to know is, why the space below the bin when I save the first item. Can you help?

Items are saved into a grid pattern aligned in order from top left column and down until full, then moves to the next column to the right.

Right click the Desktop and choose View Here you can uncheck or recheck depending on what you want to do,
Auto Arrange Icons, Auto Arrange Icons to Grid
You can move the icons anywhere on the desktop if unchecked

Could be a spacing issue. Are you able to manually move the icon up one level just beneath the Recycle Bin?

This is my Asus 2 laptop's desktop setting. My Asus 1 laptop (different model) setting is the same and it never leaves a space when saving any item.

Yes. If the left hand row is full except the space below the bin, the next item saved fills the space below the bin.
If I save another item when lefthand column is full it displaces the Firefox icon one space down and takes it's place.

I have clicked Settings > Accessibility > Test Size set it at 125%
FF set at default.
I also have used this on both laptops

Be careful in regedit.

Open search on your taskbar and type Regedit, open it.
Click on this to copy it to your clipboard --> Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics

Paste it in the following space (1) and press enter.
What does it say in position (2) IconVerticalSpacing? Is it -1125 or something else?

if it isn’t:

Double click on IconVerticalSpacing and in "Value data" change it to -1125 (Apparently though, the default is -1128 although I don’t recall changing mine)

Click OK

While you have been busy posting your cleverly crafted reply to my ????? I have also been ~~dizzy~~ busy looking for other ways to attempt a cure or another method to repeat the current problem. Then I remembered I could hold down Ctrl key and spin the mouse wheel to change the font/icon size.
I am almost 73 and had been playing with everything to get things to a size I could read. I will post more on this if I can find it.
Needless to say, playing with the mouse wheeo & Ctrl fixed it. Thanks to all.

We do these things without knowing. Ctrl + Scroll wheel is an easy thing to do accidentally.

This is what I have tried, and to some extent, still trying to do with limited success.
-
I have 2 Asus laptops (different models) and have had trouble like you have.
I thought at first it was an automatic setting that changed at night then again at daylight.
At that time I had Malwarebytes Premium for free as a Royal Band of Scotland customer.
Their offer ended and my new AV program became Bitdefender, excellent program.
As mentioned by another menber, I also went to Settings > Accessibility > Text Size and set it at Size 130
I also have as my image a portable program, this version works perfectly compared with it's laters version.
