Not sure if I'm misunderstanding how Nearby Share on Windows 11 works.

I'm trying to send a file from my Android (Samsung) phone to my Windows 11 PC using Bluetooth. I have enabled Bluetooth on both devices and enabled Nearby Share on my Window 11 PC and made it visible for everyone. Still, every time I try to send a file from my phone to my PC my phone states that my PC has denied a share request.

My PC is connected through an Ethernet cable via the same network as my phone (which is connected over WiFi).

The only way I can receive files over Bluetooth on my PC from my phone is by clicking "Send and receive files over Bluetooth" in the Settings > Bluetooth and devices dialog but this is a convoluted method compared to just enabling Nearby Share in the Quick Settings.

Am I missing something here?

If I remember correctly Nearby Share will only work if "WiFi" is enabled with Bluetooth. Even though you're on ethernet try enabling the WiFi switch on the PC as well.

I have Google Quickshare installed on PCs and Samsung phone (from when I found Send to Bluetooth worked for a while, then not etc) and that works without wifi being enabled.

On a PC can also create a shortcut in the Send To folder and use that.

There was a context menu option, but there seems an issue with that disappearing, noted elsewhere.

To clarify further you don't need to connect to your WiFi account using ethernet you just need to leave the Wifi switch on so the Wifi adaptor is active. The WiFi adaptor has to be on for nearby file sharing.

If both your PC and your smartphone are on the same network, download CX File Explorer which can read Windows shared folders over Wi-Fi:

A lot faster than connecting a USB flash drive every time.
