Network Profile friendly name

Windows 11 23H2
Hi all
Just upgraded to Win 11 on my Lenovo ThinkPad T480s. So far things seem to be running smoothly.
In Windows 10 I had defined friendly names for my network profiles in the registry under
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles
I noticed that in Windows 11 my network profile friendly names are not visible when I mouse over the wifi symbol in the taskbar. The SSID of the wifi hotspot is shown instead.
I deleted all network profiles in the registry, restarted the machine and redefined the friendly name in the registry. Mouseover the wifi icon still shows the SSID
Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Have you tried changing the network profile name from Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center --> Change adapter settings, right-click the network connection and select Rename.

Yes, I have tried that. That option changes the name of the adapter, not of the network profile

Try with security policy:
Win key, type secpol and hit enter (maybe with admin right, not sure

Check in the pic below. I'm using this to show my system name, since I can never tell in multi display and computer config which computer I'm on...

@AndreTen Unfortunately it doesn't seem to stick. It's now back to the SSID name and I can't get it to display the friendly name any more.
I have now changed my SSID itself to the friendly name, that resolves the issue for good
:)

Admit, never played with this on Wi-fi, only Ethernet. Strange that it worked at first...

I assume that I was a bit hasty with my first test. I only changed one letter of the SSID for the friendly name and it is very well possible that I thought by mistake that the name changed. At any rate I cannot reproduce the change and it looks like it does not work for wifi
:(
