Solved New Computer Build stuck on CPU Choice

I am building a new Computer To run Windows 11 Pro. It is for my 15 year old grandson to Use for School and he does Gaming also.
I using the ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS WiFi II AMD AM4, motherbard, 128 GB memory and a AMD GPU. I looking at the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
(which has integrated graphic) and the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 GT saves me money vs buying a Pcie graphic card what is the a difference between the G & GT
I guess, I could say he is a medium gamer not a lot of difference games Minecraft and a couple others. Or should I be better off getting a graphic display card?
the Os is going to be Windows 11 pro. This build is for his Christmas

For a start, he does not need 128gb ram! 16 or 32 is more than enough!

For Minecraft a dedicated GPU is better than onboard.

I agree, 128gb of ram is only needed when the PC is for tasks like professional level high-end content creation and video editing using software like Adobe Premiere Pro.

The main problem with a 5500G is that it may not exist.

Are you really going with 128GB of RAM? Looks like that should cost about $200. 64GB should be more than needed, even if you're using integrated graphics. 32GB should be adequate. If you go with 64 or 32, be sure to do it with 2 DIMMs (for dual channel).

The 5500 GT and the 5600G (is that the real one?) both are listed with "Radeon Vega 7" graphics. They have the same core/thread count, but the 5600G clocks higher. (It's also an older CPU.)

Minecraft doesn't have strong graphics requirements. First person shooters with intensive 3D graphics would want a discrete card.

I probably wouldn't buy a used CPU. That may be pure bias.

To complicate your choice, if you get a discrete graphics card, you could buy a Ryzen 5 without an integrated GPU. (Not a G or GT suffix.)

The Ryzen 7 5800X3D might be the best gaming CPU that fits your motherboard. I don't see one available, new, at Newegg, but Amazon has it ($220).

You'd need a discrete graphics card with it. Unfortunately, that raises the budget considerably. An RTX 3060 12GB or RTX 4060 (8GB) would add about $300. I don't know what would be comparable in AMD cards.

I presume that you meant "discrete" (separate) rather than "integrated" (built-in, using the CPU).

I think that will be enough powerI am looking at 1 TB WD SSD, it's the same price a the standard 1TB HD

The 5700G is a 65W CPU.

A 700W PSU may be enough to handle that. ;-)

I doubt that most people would buy a 1TB HDD now. Larger ones for data storage, sure.
