I hate that Microsoft has monopolized this industry. If I can somehow stick it to the man by never seeing an advertisement, I will happily.

I game, watch movies, listen to music, research. (just finished my thesis for my grad program) I don't FB, do any social media, use streaming services, use freeware, or produce art.

You can game without using the built in gaming 'features', fyi.
I use Firefox to go to Outlook.com and check my emails.

I also hate adverts but as I didn't pay for Win 11, seeing as it was a free upgrade from Win 10, itself a free upgrade from Win 8.1 and that from Win 8, I don't mind a shortcut to an app that I can easily uninstall. You clearly have no issue with installing a web browser then or office suite or media player?

I've been a long time user of Revo Uninstallet but you should be careful what it wants to delete and not blindly delete everything as it does sometimes delete things not related to the app that you uninstalled. I've switched to HiBit uninstaller a year back as it has literally 0 false positives as opposed to Revo and it's also free. In HiBit Uninstaller, if you click on the drop down menu on the top right, you can see it has a section for Windows Store apps wher you can also delete them and their remnants.

PS: I just use the Portable version

I have to concede to the OP here. I find Windows 11 excessively bloated with unnecessary bells-and-whistles, it's as if Microsoft is using it as an in-your-face marketing tool for its vested interests.

I buy computers for productivity, not as quasi-entertainment centres, or multi-communication systems. And Revo adequately rids me of that meddlesome software. And makes for a much more uncluttered and cleaner Start menu when teaching the new inexperienced user

Well, ofc it makes installation folders, etc.
I thought you meant did it leave something behind... when it un-installed an app.

I'm more paranoid than anyone... REVO is 100% safe. It doesn't try to call home, and it only made a backup folder because you ... asked it to make a backup.

This is all REVO that installs... there's nothing in ProgramData or AppData.
It's one of the lightest programs I've ever seen. Total size = 21.4MB

I just install Windows, uninstall any apps or links I don't use, move on. I did a clean install last week but only apps I need or use are installed. *some* Windows apps aren't needed - Media Player is gone as I use something better (PowerDVD). I think it's excessive to remove literally everything that is part of Windows.

I've never removed apps using a script like this, so forgive me if this is not correct, just taking a stab at this.

Couldn't you simply run this command to get a list of all the apps and then based upon the output, use the package names to remove the items in question?

That's the point - most (all?) of what I remove is NOT part of Windows, it's not necessary, and removing it doesn't diminish Windows functionality as an efficient OS.

Well if MS released a 'clean' Windows with no email, media features, gaming features, calendar etc and was literally a bare-bones OS, they would get slated in the tech press and by the public for removing things everyone uses/might need.

Example: New PC with no email client installed? No thanks, I want to turn it on and be able to do stuff out of the box without having to find/install other software. MS would never do that.

That's one of the first things I remove... MS email clients.

After a clean install... I pretty much remove anything that isn't basic Windows.
Things like OneDrive, Cortana, all the "libraries" folders, MS AV programs, MS browsers, WMP, MS image editors,
Notifications, Action centers, Widgets, etc.

All I want is a teeny Windows OS that allows me to install MY programs and run them.
That's it.

Oh yeah... and it should be backwards compatible, with all software, all the way back to MS-DOS.

So what qualifies as 'basic Windows' ? A desktop with absolutely NOTHING else installed? How well do you think that would sell if MS released it?
No email, no internet, no way to play music/videos. I know replacements can be installed, but I'm talking about the OOBE.

Some of the things you mentioned such as widgets, notifications, action centre are all 'basic' things surely? They're part of the 'core' OS

The only thing anyone would really need is some sort of browser, one that could then be easily uninstalled if desired.
Nothing else that can't be downloaded is really needed.... OOBE.
One or two accessibility things, and that's really all you need.

No that's not all 'anyone' would need, it's what YOU need, for 99% of Windows users they want a functioning OS that they can use when it's first powered on.

"some sort of browser" ? So you'd be happy if Google or Firefox was pre-installed instead of Edge? Never going to happen.
