OK, Tks. How come the different images? Are they both for the same user logon? Those icon forms in the second/latter screen grab are not familiar. What label (name) shows for each with a mouse-over popup?

Re-thinking/Re-reading thread .. Is one the (original) laptop and the other the (new) desktop (only for the latter image)?

Have you worked thru all of the 2nd part my post #14? I can't immediately see that you have.. It always surprises me (it shouldn't now) how many people just look at the first part of a post...

Group Policy.. you say the PC has Pro. Note this possible policy:

- to disable/hide the tray icon:
Method 3: Use Local Group Policy (Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions)

Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Security > Systray.
Double-click Hide Windows Security Systray and set it to Enabled. [1]

Note: Disabling the tray icon only hides the visual indicator. Your core security services, including Microsoft Defender and antivirus protection, will continue running normally in the background

@idgat the screenshots should all be from the same desktop pc. But the desktop pc runs Windows 11 Pro and the laptop runs Windows 11 Home. Both the 2 computers are facing the issue.

@Lavik, this so far has fixed the issue from what I can see so far. I know so, because I did a reset of the notifications in the taskbar and restarted. Then I turned the computer completely off (Full Shutdown). Waited. Powered back up, and the icon appeared as normal. I am going to try it on my mom's laptop now that is experiencing the same problem. Fingers crossed that this is the solution.

I did what each of you said to do, and every time the pc's (Laptop & Desktop) boot from a cold boot, the problem is still happening. Would running a sfc scan address it? Or should I reinstall Windows?

I was hoping this was the solution. Problem came back today when I started the computers.

@jessewilliams56 check the registry parameter.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender
In the right pane of the window, find the setting named HideSystrayIcon. If this setting exists and its value is 1,
it means the icon is being hidden by security policies.
Change its value to 0

Would running a sfc scan address it?

I would choose this sequence;
Powershell on behalf of the administrator
1. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
2. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
3. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
CMD on behalf of the administrator
sfc /scannow

With all the time spent to-date on this issue, it might be worthwhile to take one machine, and do an In-Place Upgrade.

Might seem like overkill, but the 30-40 minutes it takes may resolve it.
