Store Apps use flat two color icons and minimal user interface. Desktop apps use icons with more colors. They are not 3D like in Windows 7, but at least they are colorful, not two color like the Store apps. Similarly, Settings are also two color minimal interface compared to the "traditional" Control Panel. Also not everything can be done in Settings yet, for some configuration you must go to the respective section in Control Panel. That's why I prefer using the desktop version of applications and "traditional" Control Panel as much as possible. Other examples are Photos app vs Windows Photo Viewer, Calculator app - huge and ugly - vs old Calculator application, TV & Movies app vs Windows Media Player. Yes, all newer apps may have more functionality or compatibility but they are far more ugly with their minimal interface. So I rather use third-party desktop applications such as MPC-HC instead of TV & Movies app, than modern Microsoft apps.

- Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.
