I noticed the same thing earlier. Uninstalled it.

Well humm...might be I needed to restart Windows to make it work but it appears this morning that I can open a shortcut to a folder, close it, then open it again and no problem. Yesterday when I did the update I restarted EP a couple times trying things out. Didn't think to restart the PC. So maybe that's what some of us need to do?

After the in-place upgrade went successful, I always go in Windows Update to click on the Search for updates button. Next, I always choose to let it download and install all of the updates found, to assure that Windows is fully updated. Finally, I re-apply those specific settings that were lost as a result of the in-place upgrade. So I don't re-install ExplorerPatcher before I have put in this extra effort to avoid this "immunity" that you speak of.

For me, regardless of rebooting windows, 56.3 still restarts explorer when I try to do most things, noticeably when I first click on the file explorer icon on the taskbar to open file explorer, explorer restarts. After the initial restart of explorer it stops doing it until next reboot.

Edit; No... correction; it happened again when trying to access a folder from a desktop shortcut shortly after it happened when clicking file explorer on taskbar.

This is strange...On my unapproved Windows 11 desktop, works fine. On my NUC and my laptop, both of which are approved, it's back to the same old thing. I think that's really strange. All of them are on the same version.

EDIT: WRONG! This morning on the desktop, it's all messed up again. This is really strange.....so I'll just kick back, have a beer and wait. I know Valentin can figure it out

If all of them also have exactly the same ExplorerPatcher properties set then it implies that the problem might well be caused by an incompatibility with some Windows settings or a hardware driver.

I've signed up to a StartAllback 100 day trial so I can keep using my Taskbar Toolbars until November. Then I'll have to make a decision.

What did you unistal? I just went to EP properties and changed File Explorer>Control Interface to Windows 10 ribbon and all is working well again. I still always get the Windows 11 command bar unless I open Explorer through OpenShell menu, then it it is the "old" ribbon and that works great for me.

Not sure where you mean turn it on from, I ran the old tweak to get the ribbon back but that stopped working a few updates ago. so I had the win 11 command bar on everything, now I changed it to win 10 ribbon in EP and still get the win 11 command bar on desktop and taskbar shortcuts to Explorer.exe but a shortcut I have on the OpenShell start menu gives me the win 10 ribbon, so does any usb devices I plug in.

My keyboard has a volume control button which makes gaming and VoIP much easier to adjust on the fly. However, the last three three versions of EP stop showing the volume level the screen.

Does anyone have a regedit that will fix the OSD? If not I will keep EP uninstalled until Valinet finds the coding conflict.

Maybe it is not EP, it could be windows updates or the software. have you done any fault finding to confirm if it is EP? as we mustn't keep relying on @valinet as he is a working guy who does this project in his spare time when he has it, also check GitHub as others contribute to EP as well.

Yes I have experimented, a lot. Also posted in Github discussions. It's defintely EP that will stop the OSD from appearing using my keyboard button. Once I uninstall EP the OSD is back. I'm fine with that for now. I donated to Valinet a few months ago. He's definitely on to something that makes W11 work like it should - should means productive features.

I just installed all the Windows updates up to build 22621.2215 and also latest OpenShell version 4.4.191 and latest Explorer Patcher 22621.1992.56.3 At first restart File Explorer (explorer.exe) would not fully load and I got a black screen. I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and selected to restart. Same black screen due to incomplete File Explorer (explorer.exe) loading. So I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL once more, launched Task Manager and then I went to File->Run new task and browsed to ep_setup.exe to reinstall Explorer Patcher. This worked! It fixed whatever issues Explorer Patcher had caused and now it works perfectly. I just share for everyone having the same issue (black screen). Just open Task Manager and run ep_setup.exe again to reinstall Explorer Patcher and repair it.

See the example screenshot I linked to. From the main menu bar of File Explorer, choose View ➜ Options ➜ put a checkmark in front of Classic Explorer Bar. The Classic Explorer settings window of Open-Shell can be opened by running
"C:\Program Files\Open-Shell\ClassicExplorerSettings.exe". It has a few really nice options IMO. Here are a few examples:
  • Don't fade buttons (these buttons are the little expand/collapse chevron signs that appear in the nav pane of File Explorer),
  • Tree intem spacing (change it to -1 to reduce the line spacing, also in the nav pane of File Explorer) and
  • Full-size offset for sub-folders (this is the size of the indent between sub-folders and their parent folder in the foldertree).

Instead of pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL followed by choosing Task Manager, you can simply press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to directly open Task Manager.

I didn't remember of this shortcut, never used it, so I pressed the good old CTRL+ALT+DEL which works on all Windows versions since XP.
