New Win 11 Media Player

All my CD's have been ripped into MP3 format at 320bps and to be honest I hear no differences in playback from the originals, (ears are getting older :wink:

) - I have recently switched to digital downloads for music and video, though I do not buy as much content as I used to, being honest there's not much modern content that I like

There's little modern content I like as well. I have one or two bands who've been around forever still releasing, and that's what I mainly purchase. Sometimes I'll hear something more modern I can get into, but by and large, I'm just buying older music I realized I didn't have.

Yes, ripping into mp3 is the best way to play your music-CDs , this way you can use almost every player you have......... :wink:

I actually prefer flac files, but ripping MP3s from CDs is fine. I believe the artist has to record the flac file for it to have superior audio quality. It's hard to find digital flac downloads.

K..., after 200 posts, I think we've firmly established that the New Media Player is a lovely looking, useless piece of crap!

Flac is probably better for Classical, and related recordings as the algorithm used gives a more pure sound, but it is a larger format so has it's downsides for portability, (though with modern storage trends this is becoming less of an Issue )

Just checked and Mediamonkey [Gold] that I use will convert MP3, and many other formats, to Flac with full algorithm controls

another missing feature is the fact the media player app because it cannot read audio cds, it can't rip the cds either. As I have said before this is a useless app, adding to the many other useless apps Microsoft produce

I'm currently ripping all 2,700 of my CD's to uncompressed flac. Thus far I've done over 1800 CD's. Still have about 900 to go.

I just want a digital library of all my music.

A media player should do just that. Play media regardless of the format. The old tried and true WMP is good enough for me.

Just a confirmation - I updated a system yesterday from Windows 10 to Windows 11 22000.527 and it showed groove on first install - I then did a normal check for updates as I always do with any "new" OS and it swapped it out for the new Media Player.

Yeah, I get those emails too. I usually skip some updates since JRiver puts out a new version every year and charges for it. You get a discount, but still. I'm running version 28 so if I want 29, it'll cost me $19.98 (upgrade). Anyway, I'll probably skip 29 and wait for 30. No trying to give these guys 20 bucks every year.

I will also say their support is excellent. They do a really good job in helping users sort through any issues incurred

Update: Media Player now plays CDs. Still not able to rip.
With Realtek audio driver I can now use it's equalizer with Bluetooth headphones. Will check if same with the crappy DTS extra system on a newer laptop.
