I thought the audio sounded better than the old WMP and Groove Music

Thanks for the heads up! Playing with it now and noticed something. All MP3's where properties were edited on previous Windows versions are not being displayed in the player's music library. Unknow artist, Unknown album etc... The information is visible in File Explorer though and WMP.

However... All the MP3's where I edited those properties (since installing Win 11) are displayed as expected in the library.

Don't forget this is a preview version so hopefully it will be fixed before the final release. I wonder if you change the properties again, are they then?

OMG I figured it out. I compared the post Win 11 mp3 files vs the ones I had from Win 7... This is so trivial Im laughing. If the MP3 does not have indexing checked, the meta data of the file wont display in the player. The fix is simple:

Select MP3 file(s), right click, Properties, Advanced then check the box "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file properties". Ok and apply. Presto! All the song info is visible in the music player.

I'll mention this cause it could help someone else: I have my MP3 folder set to be indexed but if the individual files are not set to be indexed it breaks the information being displayed in the music app.

So it may not be a bug. Its that MS is maybe shifting gears on how meta data is read and stored, relying more on Windows Search (indexing). Meanwhile older apps like WMP reads the file properties directly.

If you edit the file properties within the music app the information is saved in the files properties. So that works the same as WMP. But again if the file is not set to be indexed, well, you get it.

Just a heads up, if you install this version, you cannot uninstall and go back to Groove Music, always installs as Media Player

I've finally done it. I've... crossed over.
Windows Media Player is gone, and Foobar 2000 is "in like flint".

The music even "sounds" better than when using WMP.

I uninstalled the preview and went back to Groove Music by downloading from the store, although I don't use Groove Music.

Odd, on my systems after installing Groove would not reinstall. Had to do a System Restore to get things back to "normal" again

after you said, I went and checked and my Groove Music had gone so I went to the Store. That is assuming I had Groove Music originally I assumed it was there as default as it's a fairly new computer upgraded from 10 to 11 with Windows Update. Great you had a back up before making changes

Probably not.
I'm sure, once it's polished, it'll be a sufficient app, but just that..., an app that manages and plays media, nothing more.

Everything works as expected..., sounds okay, I guess..., ('cept for that suspected volume leveling),

I got it and good riddance to Groove. I hated that app. The new Media Player has an equalizer that works very well so I don't see how any other player could sound better. This is coming, however, from someone who has always used WMP in all Windows versions. I don't like VLC. The only other media player I ever used to any extent was the old Winamp which I liked a lot but that was in my pre -2005 days when I was running Windows 98SE.

@Dch48 I always use MediaMonkey for music, VLC for videos and WMP for system sounds etc.

Υes , it is possible for one media player to have better sound than another.
I'll tell you my example: I have the AIMP player and the CyberLink Power DVD 2021. AIMP has no choice as to how many speakers you use ,
while Cyberlink has (2-8 or headphones). So Cyberlink has better sound on my system which has 4 speakers. If you have more than 2 speakers (default) , you can check it.
