Nightmare after Windows 11 update


I'm not saying that there's something wrong with using NTFS. It comes down to what one needs. You're happy using NTFS on your external drives and I'm happy using exFat or NTFS. What ever my external drives come formatted as, that's what I'm going to use. As far as Copilot goes, I take all of it's replies with a grain of salt. It's good and getting better but it's still in its infancy.

Have you noticed that Copilot is fully footnoted for sources? I've been using Copilot since my computer came with a Copilot Key 8 months ago. For quite a while I checked all the sources and was satisfied that Copilot answers were always a good bit better than my having to deal with all the adverts and inaccuracies of slugging through Google. As far as that goes, I take everything today with a grain of salt! :cool:

I have used Copilot but mostly for testing. The other times is when I do a search and a Copilot answer comes up. I do have the Copilot icon on the Toolbar so that I can use it if I want. I just checked and both security settings in Copilot are turned off. I don't remember turning them off but I may have.

I wasn't aware of user configurable security settings in Copilot. I just checked settings within my Copilot and don't find what you are referring to as "both security settings". Would you clarify this?

Yes, I see. I don't use the Edge sidebar, and I don't use the Copilot button/icon from within Edge. My only use of Copilot is when I press the Copilot Key on my keyboard. We're using Copilot differently and quite frankly I'm going to research the difference. It never occurred to me that there could or would be differences.

If you don't have a Copilot Key on your keyboard, the default to open standalone AI assistant Copilot is Alt + Spacebar. Does that work for you?

I don't have a Copilot ready keyboard so I have to use the start menu or pin it to the Taskbar. I guess Edge has the security options so one can control what info Copilot records when browsing.

I just checked the setting in Copilot and they are a little different then the settings in Edge. The only setting turned on is Model training on text. Again I have to admit that if I made any changes I don't remember doing it.

The voice setting being turned off on my computer makes sense. The microphone is in my USB camera that I only turn on when I need to use it. I think I'll start messing around with Copilot again. That's the only way I'm going to learn more about it so that I have a better understanding of how it works and the improvements it's getting.

When this XPS 9640 computer was delivered from Dell 8 months ago and I saw the Copilot Key on the keyboard, the first thing I looked for was a way to program it to do something else. Like most folks here, I had my doubts about whether I even wanted it at all. Then I decided, what the heck, it was there, I'll just give it a try.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and that all its answers were nicely footnoted for sources. Most of my Copilot questions are technical and it's been accurate and dependable. If answers are best from Microsoft, of course that's where it goes first. It's much faster than digging through Microsoft documentation.

Bottom line is that I've kept the Copilot Key bringing up Copilot, and I use it multiple times every day. For me it really is that useful.

@TraderGary What a refreshingly sane response to a new technology. I too was skeptical of generative AI things, but I started using it anyway. I mostly use it to make coding suggestions or do reviews of existing code. I have to say it’s quite nice. Does it turn out crap code sometimes or give incorrect answers? Yes. Do I do the same thing? Also yes.

My hat is off to you and your reasonable approach. That was like a tall glass of lemonade after cutting the grass.
