I am running the Release Preview Build Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (Build 22631.3880)......Is that it? I went to the UUP Dump and all I find is 24H2 Builds in place now. If that is the case I am out because the .DLL hack that I was using to install the Insider builds does not work with 24H2. Am I done as an Insider unless I buy a compatible computer, which I have no plans in doing....I have been an Insider almost from the beginning. Hate to leave but I really don't have a choice.

Build 22631.3880 is the latest 23H2 release. This includes the July 2024 Patch Tuesday updates. Note that this is NOT a preview build, the is a standard released, fully supported version.

If your intention is to go to a release preview build, one option would be to download the latest build (26100.1150) from here and simply install it right over the top of your release. This will maintain your settings and programs:


Once again, note that 26100.1150 is the very latest in the Release Preview builds, including the July 2024 Patch Tuesday updates.

Release Preview is currently running updates for 23H2 and 24H2 in parallel. From the way you talk about it, I'm guessing that you may not be signed in as an Insider, and that you get all your Insider builds from UUPDump.

If you want 24H2 Release Preview, then you can get it through Windows Update in your existing RP 23H2 build. You'll need to enrol the PC in the RP channel, turn on 'Get the latest updates...' in Window Update, then check for updates. You should be offered the 24H2 Feature Update.

You do not need to sign up for Insiders to be able to do this, I haven't. Instead I use the OfflineInsiderEnroll.cmd script to enrol in Insider channels.

You are correct that the appraiserres.dll trick no longer works for installing any 24H2 build on an unsupported device, but this Skip_TPM_Check_on_Dynamic_Update.cmd scrip does work for 24H2. I have used it to enable Windows Update to install feature updates in Canary, Dev, and RP on my unsupported devices, System Two and System Four (in 'Other Info') in My Computers below.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

I really appreciate this info but even with all my previous certifications I failed to learn how to execute scripts. I wish I had.

This script is just like a batch file. Simply double-click it to run it.

NOTE: I have not checked instructions for this particular script. If it requires that you run it as an Administrator, then rather than simply double-clicking it, you would right-click it and choose to run it as Administrator.

To download the .cmd script just go to the link in my post #4, click the ... menu, and select download. Save it anywhere you like, the .cmd file is a text file, you can open it in Notepad to see what is in it.

I use this script on all my unsupported devices running the Insider 24H2 builds. Yes, you need to run it as administrator.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
Ok, I did as you said Bree. Can I now continue to do the in-place upgrades as I have been all along. I am signed in with a MS account. I have never set up a local account on any of my machines. Sorry for being so ignorant to this but the .DLL trick has been my go to for so long I have never tried anything else. It's hard to teach old dogs new tricks. :geek:

Ok, I have done all of that and it seems to be working properly. I now have my MS Windows Insider Program working again but I get this when I try an in place upgrade. Now I have to go see if I can find this and turn it on.

NOTE: You do NOT have to enable Secure Boot. Your system merely needs to support Secure Boot in order to meet Windows 11 requirements, but it does not need to be enabled.

Could you tell me what make and model PC you are using so I can attempt to look up some details? If this is a home built PC, then the make and model of the motherboard is all that I need.

If you want to get upgraded and don't want to bother with Secure Boot, do this:

Copy the text below to a text file and save it somewhere easy to get to such as your desktop. Rename the file to bypass.reg. Double-click on the bypass.reg file. It will ask if you want to merge the contents of the file into the registry. Allow it to do so.

Start your upgrade again. It should now work.

BTW, you can delete that bypass.reg file if you wish at any time after you run it. We no longer need it.
