Solved Not able to convert c: to gpt

Hi guys I have read so many posts about mbr2gpt not working I am so confused.

I am trying to update my son's pc that has Win10 Home v 22H2 atm, basically the same as my pc that I had no problems upgrading from Win10 Home to Win11 Pro with legit key. I dont think I had to change from legacy to gpt then so I must have done it previously. Fist of all I cant update his to v 24H2 as I did on mine before. No matter how I seem to try I cant get the mbr2gpt conversion to work so cant switch to EUFI and Secure Boot in Bios.

This old man feels like it might be time to give up.

There might be an issue though.

I've only seen this problem one other time, and the solution was a backup to an external followed by initializing the target drive and reformatting using gParted

It's quite possible it's due to the size of your system partition. It should be at least 100MB

Upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 can succeed even if Windows is installed on an MBR disk, for example, by using the "setup.exe /product server" command.

However, if the computer meets the official Windows 11 system requirements, it’s a good idea to convert the MBR disk to GPT first. Doing so eliminates the need to bypass any Windows 11 hardware checks.

This occurs because the disk contains too many partitions.

"Disk Prerequisites: There are at most three primary partitions in the MBR partition table"

This is not a problem.

"Creating an EFI system partition: If the existing MBR system partition can't be reused, a new EFI system partition is created by shrinking the OS partition. This new partition has a size of 100 MB (or 260 MB for 4K sector size disks) and is formatted FAT32."

Your disk currently has four primary partitions:
System Reserved, C:, Recovery, and D:
(The 501 MB "Unallocated" area is not a partition.)

1. Extend the C: partition in Disk Management, which will remove the 501 MB of unallocated space.
2. Check whether there is enough free space on the C: partition. Move files from the D: partition to C:.
3. Delete the D: partition in Disk Management.
4. Run the MBR2GPT command.

This worked after deleting D: re-instated after MBR2GPT worked and done the conversion. Thanks
