You don't need to disable Pagefile it has nothing to do with Prefetch files those are cache files to start programs faster.

No it will not we don't know if its legit file or not if its not deleting may help but Windows only loads what needed in pagefile.

It's a quick easy test. I'm not a firm believer is System Managed Page Files, to begin with.

Pagefile. sys is a Windows system file that stores overflow data when physical RAM is full. It works as virtual memory, helping Windows stay stable during heavy workloads. It can grow large because it must cover peak memory demand and system crash dump requirements.

Or how about "progress bars". MS still hasn't come up with a decent one.
I "like" controlling my Page File.

When you click the Change... button (lower right), choose: No Paging File then it will tell you to reboot. Do so.
Then when you're back on the desktop, set the Page File like it "was" set, and see if you still have that problem.



Or... if you know when the problem first occurred, just restore from a backup from before that date.

Ghot You Mad Scientist You. After restored page filing I formatted my thumb drive That shortcut is gone. I can copy and pull from the drive. I must say I had my doubts about this... But it worked. Thanks to all who jumped in. (y)

I understand but what i'm trying to say is OP situation nothing to do with PageFile the prefetch files can be deleted so can PageFile but why advise OP to disable PageFile because you don't like it has nothing to do with OP question.

Look... I don't work for MS. I have just seen some really weird things happen in Windows over the years.
Quite a few times, deleting and re-creating the Page File... fixed things.

I understand again how you think deleting Pagefile would help OP i don't know as it was question about shortcut to a executable so because executable does not exist problem solved.

I formatted my thumb drives over and over again and that shortcut always returned. After following Ghot's suggestion that shortcut is no longer there. I have no explanation for it.

The .pf files still exist, they are not deleted when PageFile deleted.

Windows creates a prefetch file when an application is run from a particular location for the very first time. This is used to help speed up the loading of applications. For investigators, these files contain some valuable data on a user's application history on a computer.

The only ehuse_x4.exe files he found when searching the C: drive were .pf files.
Think of it like this... all I did was hit his software with a bigger hammer. ^^
