I'm 69 my friend... I can't remember all the "whys" anymore.

I just now deleted the .pf file as a safety measure. Call it peace of mind.

Age nothing to do with knowledge i try to explain how PageFile works and Prefetch files work but some reason you both think deleting Pagefile sort the problem out.

Disabling the pagefile makes sense, but not because anything "re-activates" itself automatically from the pagefile. That's just not how memory management works in Windows.

But disabling the pagefile does cause a flush of all pageable memory, an evaluation of crash dump settings, and a tearing down of the memory manager (to start fresh). It also clears out things like hibernation and fast startup. Essentially, it's one of the most frigid of the Windows cold boots. So anything that might have been persistent in, for example, the fast startup or hibernation pipelines, or anywhere in memory really, is now gone.

I don't think I've ever disabled the pagefile and enabled it to troubleshoot something persistent myself, but it's a superb idea.

Just to let you know I found the drive responsible. It was an old HDD I had connected to my remote access bay. It's been in there for a long time and completely forgot about. I'm writing 0's X 3 overnight to that HDD just to cover bases See Screenshot. Just prior to writing 0's to that drive I plugged in a thumb drive and the shortcut was there again. SO Ghot... It was the old HDD all along that had the file. Sorry brother... I was misled. It'll take over night so I'll post back tomorrow morning. If it is still there in the morning I'll wipe the page file again. :crossed As I said... Why only remote drives and never dedicated drives like NVME and such. That I find very odd. Anyway I have that shortcut on the thumb drive that may or may infect my system and also may lead to a solution.
Lets hope.

I am having the same problem except the ehuse-x4.exe file resided on my Synology NAS mapped drive. Even using the Pagefile.sys trick mentioned, I still can't stop the link from being created after deleting it. I was able to find the ehuse-x4.exe file in the root of this NAS mapped drive and was able to remove it.

This problem started occuring about the same time as Lance1's experience - coincidence? Unlike a small USB drive, the NAS drive cannot be simply erased as it has TBs of data on it.

This 'virus' deleted many of my files on the NAS (fortunately I had a recycle folder so I still have the files). It also created a subdirectory with the same name as the root of this NAS drive, moved many files to the new subdirectory and made those files read-only. Trying to move the files back to the root directory from the subdirectory causes those files to move back to the subdirectory or deletes them. Restoring files from the recycle folder results in the files being deleted again.

Open to further suggestions how to resolve this!
