OneDrive: Still the elephant in the room.

There is another thing to consider. If a person enters my home it is on my terms. If they don’t like taking their shoes of or refraining from profanities, if they don’t like the scented candles I burn or the way I change music constantly, or that occasionally I’ll randomly decide that I might walk around naked for 5 minutes, they can leave and choose not to re-enter my home.

Having said the above, I don’t understand how Microsoft seems to have circumnavigated the findings & decision of the famous anti-trust lawsuit America VS Microsoft.

Some of my students want to learn more about it, and some want it to go away (most likely because they don't know what to do with it).

I have never used onedrive or fixed with onedrive on any computers as i only tell everyone to stay away from it. *LOL*

Besides the fact it appropriated arguably the most important directories in the WinOS, since I used those places from which to build a completely sensible and accessible but fairly complex directory structure, onedrive never quite got it straight which file it was copying, updating, syncing, creating a shortcut for, etc.
So every file that got changed required a near complete redo of what it hadn't finished; or started; as may have been the case when I shut down for the day; allowed a system update; restarted; or might have been trying to find a file and finding it was no longer reachable by one of my (Everything) file finders.
Ergo, which files to delete--all with different creation/mod dates; some incomplete; some ancient, none seeming to be the right one...before telling FreeFileSync to sync away. You've been fortunate not to have had to deal with odrive.
Why do you use FFileSync if you're using Macrium Reflect?

I've had to work on PC's where the only reasonable fix it to reinstall Windows. But first, I would do everything possible to find and save all the PC owner's data files. Documents would usually be in the My Documents folder, but pictures could be and quite often would be anywhere. Finding all of them could be a real time consuming chore.

For my own PC's, both desktop and laptop, I use a completely different filing system.
Setting up a new HD, I create two partitions, with the first one (C:) as my OS and program partition, and (D:) the second partition, will be my data storage partition. There are virtually NO data files anywhere on C: as they reside in five folders on D:.
D: can also be used for a quick Ghost backup of C:.

At least once a week, I run a batch file that copies all five of my data folders, to a 128GB Flash Drive.
That same backup process is duplicated, to a 1TB internal HD, and only files that are new or files that have changed are copied.
My weekly backup, typically takes only a few seconds.

So I really have no need for One Drive or any such cloud storage.
One Drive is one of the first things I DELETE from any new install of Windows.

I have never used or tested Macrium Reflect as i have other backup solutions.. I have only heard people talk about it on tenforums and in here.. so i dont know how that software works and can not have any opinion of it.

It almost sound as onedrive is more trouble then useful

I have kept away from it on purpose as i have fought for the right to choose privacy online since the mid 90's.. so i have never and will never have an account at Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon and similar data-hoarders. So thanks to that i have never looked in to onedrive, google drive, etc... So thats just my choice..., and i dont care if other people is using it, its their choice to make

and i have no negative opinion of those that want to expose every bit of their life online

I always learn from others experiences when i dont use the stuff myself.... and is to lazy to take my time trying it out. *LOL*

I dont mind it is pre installed.. i mind it is a nightmare to purge edge from the system... win7 had IE as pre installed.. but it was easy to uninstall.. so that should be easy with edge too.

Simply put:
If you appreciate OneDrive, and you need it, and understand how it's implemented and how it works..., it's an invaluable tool!
If you think the opposite of any of the above, it'll probably be a thorn in your side! Period!

Not even gonna touch on the privacy/trust thing!

hi there, Redd! Just the perfect person to join this thread! My wife just noticed that iCloud seems to have invaded her phone (being a windows person doesn't prevent one from having an iPhone, only wondering why Microsoft hasn't invaded the android OS)...
...and seems to have appropriated a number of apps, including some containing files that she used to list her passwords...

After having read this thread, what do YOU believe Apple's purpose is in invading the AppleOS with its iCloud?
