PC Disappeared From Microsoft Account.

Hi Denis. Yes I checked System/Activation. It shows Activated With A Digital License Linked To Your Microsoft Account. The PC shows all the right things just the MS account where it doesn't show up. I think its a Microsoft issue. Checking online it seems to have been reported since the middle of the year. I can live with it as it was just License Activation I was concerned about if I need to do another clean install, but from what I've been told Activation is done independently from MS account. Thanks.

I did a clean install of W11 for my daughter a couple of weeks ago. She uses a MS Account which was signed into during the install process.

We checked her Microsoft Account and discovered that her Dell Laptop wasn't registered under devices. It is showing in Settings/Linked Devices correctly as Linked To Your Microsoft Account. Her laptop is OEM and so doesn't have a licence key.
Go to settings -> "Accounts" -> "Linked devices"
Near to your computer, click on "Warranty and repair".

I'm getting the following error for the machine which is not listed in my Microsoft account (a Dell desktop BTW):

I guess you're getting the same too.
Note that my computer was listed on my MS Account initially and disappeared as soon as I've made a clean install too to start fresh.

It's supposed to work like this for non MS PC's;

For Windows PCs (Non-Microsoft Brand):
  1. On the new PC, go to Start > Settings > Accounts.
  2. Select Your info and choose Sign in with a Microsoft account instead, or simply sign into any Office app (like Word) with your MS account.
  3. Follow the prompts to sign in with your existing Microsoft account.
  4. The device will then appear in your Microsoft account's device list at account.microsoft.com/devices.

Gary,

It was late last year that I first noticed people reporting their inability to add non-MS computers to their MSAccounts.
So your experience is consistent with those reports.

All the best,
Denis

When did you last validate those suggestions?

Denis
I last registered my three PC's with my MS account a month or two ago when Windows tried to force install an insiders DEV build on them and I had to manually unenroll with a reg hack but that's a whole different story.

Anyhow, I had to switch to a local account first and reboot then switch my account back to my MS account and my devices reappeared. Maybe switching to a local account and back to a MS account will reactivate it. Also I read you'll want sync turned on with the below settings.

the device showed up online! 🤷‍♂️
