I've been looking through CPUs and decided to go with the.


Mainly for the option for Integrated Graphics. I call it a backdoor to your system incase your discrete card decides to Brick. It has pretty much all the other candy I'm looking for. I can work with the $579.00 price tag.

I was also looking at memory. I have in my system now 24 GB DDR3. So I was thinking if I'm going to upgrading, Upgrade! So I went with this.


Bit of a price upgrade at $244.00 but worth it I think. All totals at $1,733.85. Remember my OP I said I would entertain $1500.00. To $1800.00 So I think I made my mark. What do you think of my changes?? I think this is going to be a kick ass build. Thankyou for any and all your advice. I valued all of it. I most likely won't have this system built till late February or early Match but I will let you know. This Is Going To Be Fun! Stay tuned. Upgrades are in My OP. O ya! I have room for 2 more M.2 modules. Upgrades down the road!!

The Noctua cooler is not sufficient enough for cooling this particular CPU when it reach max TDP at PL2 of 253W. The cooler is only capable of 183W.

For normal day to day use it's more than enough, but be careful when doing some heavy tasks.

I have this same cooler on my i7-7700k, and it's fine 99% of the time, but fail miserably during a heavy CPU only stress test.

For other heavy real world tasks, it's fine.

So please monitor your temperatures when doing something CPU intensive, just to make sure you don't kill your CPU...

Thats mental, my 205w 10700k is running an hyper 212(180tdp) at 5.2hgz all cores, the noctua is more than enough seen as its rated to 220.
If thats the case...the world doesn't have an air cooler good enough for you're 7 year old cpu yet.

Mental? I dunno.

Some motherboards (Asus, for example) will run a Gen13 or 14 CPU above their nominal TDP levels. I doubt that most real-world software would max out a CPU for long periods.

Some reviewers claim that even the best AIO water coolers are marginal for a Gen13 or 14 I9.

I have a machine with an I9-13900K, cooled by a Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix. (360mm AIO). Under Cinebench23, it goes up to around 95C (20C room temp). I've never used an NH-D15 with it, but I doubt it could do quite as well. I think it's unlikely I'd ever get close to 95C with real applications.

On the other hand, Puget Systems uses a Noctua NH-U12AP in their (expensive) I9-14900K systems. They don't go to water cooling until CPUs that use more power (AMD Threadripper).

Guys My Noctua NH-D15 will do just fine for my build. I don't game, I don't OC. I have this opportunity to build this amazing system and I want to make this beast. But not a beast to some. At my age, 65 this month. It could be my crown. So leave the cooling alone. Is there anything else that's out you think??

If the NH-D15 fits in your case, and clears your RAM, sounds good.

If the fan on the NH-D15 interferes with your RAM just a little. you can probably raise the fan a little to clear.

It doesn't, the Noctua can't keep up, it's not quite fast enough under syntethic stress test, which I do extensively before I declare a machine complete. I was just stating a warning here. I've setup hundreds of machines of various configurations. It was my job, so I might have some experience in this regard. An AIO is a lot faster at keeping temps in check, it's called thermal dynamics. Smaller AIOs are far worse than the Noctua though.

Since OP is not overclocking, it should be fine though. Just something to keep in mind.

So my worse off air cooler than the noctua...my cpu thats more powerful/hotter than your....is running fine/has been for years OC'd tp 5.2ghz. How is that possible then? If my cooler is worse and cpu as standard is hotter... then why is mine enough but yours isn't?

Do you ever run prolonged stress tests? Cinebench R23 is one.

It's likely that real world usage would not max out the CPU for long periods.

I've had it maxxed at 100% for around 55 minutes running shader compiles, max temp was 94. Was also ran for 24hr upon build albeit without the OC. Only 400mhz per core extra though so not a crazy amount.

Impressive. Cinebench normally only runs for 10 minutes.

This is a single threaded operation...so you can't compare it. Try running Prime 95 for 12h on all cores with In-Place FFTs setting. At the same time monitor CPU temp and max CPU frequency at all times and tell me you don't hit thermal throttle and keep MAX boosts with Noctuas best cooler on your CPU at ambient temp around 22C.

...OR use Custom settings and put Cores to whatever you have and double that.

Thats alarming then as i checked at the time and was utilising the lot with 0 to spare. Sadly i dont have a spare 12 hour window where im not using the pc. It was done when i built it and didn't have further cause to do it again for the hoopla. Albeit again, was done with the minor oc
