Planning A New Build in late January.

Well! After debating between AMD and Intel... I went with Intel. AMD has more bad press than Intel as I have found so my choice buying from Newegg is Intel. I am not a gamer but like a clean display watching movies so my Asus R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 GPU provides that for me. That is the only add in form my old build. So my question is... Did I make the right choice in my build? I'm at under $1300.00 but would entertain $1500.00. To $1800.00 Keep this in Newegg Canadian please. So what do you think? Is what I have chosen the best for my build? Comments!

That is exciting , lots of fun with a new build.

I am not planning on doing it for a while, but when I get round to it I think I might switch to amd. The am4 platform was superb for people who bought into it. Hopefully am5 will turn out just as good.

lga 1700 is amost certainly dead already. Very much doubt it will go further than 14th gen, which is just a refresh of 13th gen.

For nvme the crucial t500 is getting good reviews

I haven't looked at cpus recently, but all 3 of my last builds have been Ryzen. Son's, mine and wifes all running AMD's. 3800x ,5900, and 5600x respecticely. It was a no-brainer for me at the time as intel wasn't supporting pcie gen 4 names when I built.

I have no issues with Intel. I've flipped flopped back and forth over the years.

I highly recommend seasonic power supplies. They have been top notch for me.

I like the PSU front access. That is handy. Nice case too.

I'd love to have my modular power supplies connecting from the side like that.

My wife and i both have a Fractal S2 Meshify case, hers in black and mine in white. The Fractal cases have been great. Airflow is fantastic, I found no need to put in any additional fans. The 2 140 intakes and 1 x 140 exhaust has provided plenty of air. The case can take 9 fans. my only complaint on my case, is that it is a little too big...at least for me. But none of the compact options existed when i bought it, and airflow was #1 for me.

My System Two was in need of more power, so it got the hand-me-down 750 from System One, which got a RM850x Shift.
My case is configured similar to the one in the video and the Shift made it so much easier to connect and route all the cables.
The connectors on the PSU side are much smaller than a standard PSU cable, the cables are much thinner and way more flexible.

Yea, that side access would be perfect for most cases, especially a case like the Fractal Design Meshify 2 where you have access from one side but not the motherboard side with the power supply shroud in the way.

I decided to dump the AIO in favor of the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black, Dual-Tower CPU Cooler. Reason for the change is that my existing Noctua NH-D15 has served me exceptionally well over the years. Check my OP for the update. Also remember that I said I was keeping my old Asus R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 GPU? Keep in mind I found this card for FREE at a garage sale. I think you'll find that it held its own. Being 11.5 inches long, its steal frame effectively keep the card from sagging as card today like the 3080 and 4090 need third party support to prevent that. There's also one thing I that I had not noticed. There's a "Silent and Uber Mode switch" up at the front of the card. The video points it out. I'll have to look that up. There's a lot to be said about old tech. Here's the video. Check out 5:15 that shows the GPU Tweak. Great app for this card.

I've been on Intel all my life. My last build was an AMD and I don't really feel any difference.

I wouldn't think you would. AMD and Intel are on an even plain. All it is, is a personal choice. The Dark side OR! The Light Side.... You choose which one is which.

This is my garage sale special. The video shows it in its entirety but this is the one I found in the FREE BOX at the garage sale. I just had to show it.. I never asked this but dose anyone on this forum have this card?? If so comment! Or I'M I the only one with this amazing card.

Just a heads up. I try not to buy high value items from Newegg Canada. They don't give your money back in case you have a problem. They only issue store credit. So you will be stuck with whatever available hardware they have so that you can use the store credit. And shipping is much much slower unless you will pick it up yourself which also has a waiting period until it is ready for pick-up.

I'm also a fan of the air coolers. I looked at the NH-D15 in black when I did my build. I ended up with a Dark Rock Pro 4 from BeQuiet...which is pretty much the same sort of thing. No regrets whatsoever. It cools my Ryzen 9 5900X great, and it does it very quietly.

Its probably like my EVGA, where the FTW card has the little switch for "oc", which basically changes the fan profile and eliminates the 0 speed fan idle on the card. I didn't like it as i could hear the fans click on and spin up all of the time when they would shut off. I just prefer them to run at a low speed all of the time.

Also tried water cooling once and never went back again, hahaha. Air coolers are also reliable and less work.

Ya... I almost bit the bullet on the AIO but after watching some videos on Greg Salazar Youtube channel "Which I am a big fan" regarding clogging helped to change my mine as well.

I just did a return/refund with Newegg US. I got a full refund. The package was unopened, though.
