My current PC is an HP "refurb"(haswell) I bought back in March and it's the first windows computer I've used since 2008. It's too old to have any such nonsense as TPM so no 11 for this baby.

I am old, contankerous, and have a total lack of patience, so I thought I'd give windows another try after so long using linux (however, I still use ubuntu on several other computers so I haven't totally gone over to the dark side) :p. I don't mind win 10 and actually kind of find it rather quaint, so I now have at least 4 more years to use it and remember why I left ms in the first place.

Windows 11? PFFT...I'll buy another refurb in 2025 and put 11 on it after "all the bugs are ironed out", and hopefully it will have this newfangled thing called "TPM" on it.

Nice find. Yeah, don't see your processor on the list there.
Tsk... I didn't notice it too which angers me. I've lost some of my hype for Windows 11 now.I was interested but it seems like my processor isn't supported.

Has anyone managed to get Windows 11 running on a 6th/7th generation processor? I know several peoples has got Windows 10 working with processors that go as far back as 2010.

I discovered that my processor isn't supported and while it isn't it works. I've been planning an upgrade so I guess it's time to get it done. My current AMD Ryzen 3 2200G isn't going to cut it anymore.

I need to get a Ryzen 3 3200G

Even a 3 years old processor is unsupported!? What is Microsoft planning...

Since it's much more recent I think you might have a more reliability (much higher chance of getting it working on windows 11). For me it's on the lower side. But I think it might work. I've seen peoples getting it working with older processors going as back as 2004 with the prescott, though it ran badly on them. It seems it might be a tool that tells you if you're guaranteed a working Windows 11 version.

I wish I new but mine isn't supported and that would likely explain the failure on the compatibility test. The software is buggy so I'll wait till they fix it but I'll also plan on getting a 3200G

I had windows 10 running on a Core i7 965 EE on an eVGA X58 motherboard. Worked perfectly fine.

I am a bit surprised that Microsoft is making the cutoff for Win11 so much more recent, but there may be mitigating factors that we haven't figured out yet.

Or it may be a ploy to help boost PC sales.

That core is from November 2008. And it worked fine, perfect in fact, right? Okay, I think I should have a better chance for my case then. Mine has been released in September 2015 and it is said to be a very viable core for gaming. So it would be powerful.

I really think it is a ploy for boosting PC sales, but we will see how it does as the insider versions arrives and the rtm versions. At the very minimum, I am expecting cores from 2014 or older to start having problems.

Bingo. I was even running Insiders builds on it for 2+ years live (not in VM). Ran into an occasional issue here and there, but by and large it worked well enough, for being so old. It had 12 GB of triple channel DDR3, and I kept continually replacing storage media and GPUs in it. I originally built it in 2011 when my 3 year old Core2Quad took a massive power surge from a nearby lightning strike.

I ran the tool and even though according to Windows Update I'm running the latest version the report said I was running Windows 10 2009. Also apparently One Drive wasn't synchronizing. Mind you I wasn't going to put 11 on here yet anyway, this HP Envy is about 3/4 years old and came with Windows 10 Home, it has an AMD. I might even wait a bit longer and then get a new one. We shall see.

Great find:

There is a soft and hard limit for the Windows 11 upgrade. Hard limit is obv these described by the system requirement. Those cannot upgrade to Windows 11.

The soft limit are TPM and, bingo, core generation. Those in the list are guaranteed to work on Windows 11. It is in fact POSSIBLE to get Win 11 on my laptop, it's just that the upgrade may not be advised due to compatibility issues.

I am worried about running into UNSUPPORTED PROCESSOR blue screen. . .

Read my previous post. Soft limit on cores so it might work well as long as it dates to 5 years ago.

I can't imagine that they will put these restrictions on. It's likely a suggested list and not a hard and firm list. But if I can find a decent use 3200G for a decent price I might pull the trigger.. but first.. I want to find see what happens after they fix the software

I am worried about running into UNSUPPORTED PROCESSOR blue screen. . .

Yeah, right now they haven't coded in the "Shouldn't be installed on" messages, so everyone, regardless of if they miss hard or soft floor, are currently being told they cannot install.

So, this will likely change (in order to become more clear (as mud, typical Microsoft).

I can't imagine that they will put these restrictions on. It's likely a suggested list and not a hard and firm list. But if I can find a decent use 3200G for a decent price I might pull the trigger.. but first.. I want to find see what happens after they fix the software

I would have said the same thing - but when Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities were revealed to the public for the first time, Intel, after shuffling their feet for a long time, arbitrarily dropped any support for CPUCode-based fixes for the first gen of the Core ix series of CPUs. One of which was my Core i7 965 EE based machine, my previous rig.

So I would not put it past Microsoft to "say" that it cannot be done.

That being said - we've seen plenty of times where what Microsoft says and what reality is are not even in the same galaxy.

It's a NO for me. I ran the APP and looked into the BIOS. I have no TPM. Yet it runs fine in my VM. I should Do a hardware install just for fun this weekend.

On a side point... I would love to have my animated avatar back... Just saying!! Make it work please...

Two of my newer desktops and one laptop meet the requirements but three of my older desktops don‘t.
