Don't think so, been using it since it's inception. nary a problem for this old man. Was hoping for a little gripe like I had on the first release of Windows 10 insider preview. O' brother.

A lot can or could be done in a month, lets get it over with and put an end to all the speculation and unverified statements as to what will and what won't when it's live.

Yep by a month- Black Friday is 26 Nov - assuming MS does these things for OEM's (it's also my birthday - so please go mental buying me stuff like that Dell XPS 13.. TIA)

There are people who think that EVERY update/upgrade to Windows 10 is released too soon. Also, what was strange, I thought, was that Windows 11 never had the insider watermark/expiration dates associated with it.

Call me lucky, or perhaps overly optimistic, but I think Windows 11 is basically ready now. That's probably why MS Is willing to float a GA date of 10/5/2021 knowing they still have about 3.5 weeks in which to catch & kill bugs and so forth before they have to put a ribbon around things. I also think this date means the OEMs probably already have a canonical image that they will modify to run on the PCs they'll have ready for purchase on October 5.
Just my two cents' worth.

It's because they were confident - It's mobile's Win10X which was ready to rock 'n roll before they decided to push it to Desktop with a few tweaks.

I do not think it is because I believe that MS worked on this long before it was released for testing.

Naah, it's as stable or buggy as any other release currently supported. Only some minor glitches and that's it. Easy to fix.

There are still rough edges that I hope they fix before release. For example, I can crash File Explorer at will on every machine I have ever tested this on. In addition, very often, the first time you click on the power button nothing happens (it should display options to shtdown, reboot, etc.).

I have no such issues. Works every time for me on multiple computers. Explorer has crashed once for me and that was on the initial public beta. Been rock solid ever since.

I agree.

I still have the original 10240 release (and all the others come to that) available to run on my test machine, should anyone ask for support. When I run it I can see some really rough edges that (in retrospect) were not really ready for release.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

Oh goody, sounds as if I'll be able to get a new laptop and start playing with it at last.

I suppose it's no more crippled than some other Windows initial releases have been, although not all the "goodies" Microsoft crowed about in their original 11 announcement are ready yet. Access to Android apps for one.

Will Windows 11 be ready or do you think that the October 5 release date is too soon?

It's pretty much impossible to say whether the OS is releasing too soon or will be ready for prime time as everyone will have different experiences and opinions as the what the OS should and shouldn't do. Also some will have an issues others don't so....

That said, my short answer (based on what we have now) is yes, I think it will be ready, so no, I don't think it's too soon. The long term answer I think can only be answered "after" the final release.

My two cents.

My question is, does this mean nothing new except bug-fixes and security patches for a whole year according to their release policy? They haven't yet ddelivered on direct storage for instance.

If the answer is nothing new for a year. I think it is too early,
