Not sure what you're on about, mate. One of your links says the same thing one of my links says: run DISM before SFC.

The other is from an MVP and not official. That post also says to run CheckHealth, ScanHealth and RestoreHealth, which is fun if you like wasting time.

Also, I don't need your forgiveness, and I'm not looking for a debate.

Actually, that guy's many posts added useful depth on the discussed matter missing in the basic MS Support messages and DISM CMD refs.

This SO post you seem to like so much says,

SFC always assumes the Component Store is not corrupted and is why the DISM /RestoreHealth parameter (Windows 7: SUR) should always be run prior to SFC; not doing so allows a corrupted Component Store to potentially replace a good system file with a corrupted one or fail to fix corruption within %WinDir% altogether

DISM is more authoritative than SFC, because it can perform a consistency check on WinSxS. SFC just assumes WinSxS is truthful.

- If you patch a Windows file and run SFC; SFC will determine the file has changed, and restore it from WinSxS.

- If you patch the same file in both Windows and WinSxS, it will pass the SFC test. But it will fail DISM because there's a catalog file, and the modded file doesn't match the stored hash value. DISM can't fix Windows, but it knows there's a problem and wants you to provide a clean WinSxS source to solve it.

It started today! I'm having the same issue when I run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup. Error "
2025-03-01 07:39:53, Error DISM API: PID=16192 TID=15640 Time_InternalToPublic failed - Time_InternalToPublic(hr:0x80070057)
SFC found no errors.

Theoretically yes. But all Windows files are signed with a secure certificate, so you would have to break that.

This is the full rule I was taught in elementary school. And yes, I was sad when the dinosaurs died. 😁
