Really Bad Unexplained Crash

I just had the worst application crash I have ever had. I was playing a game and the computer completely froze up. No mouse, keyboard, nothing. The screen just froze. It did NOT BSOD. I was unable to recover and had to press the reset button. Viola! It would not boot again. The second time I tried to boot, BIOS opened up saying there was a boot error. I went through the BIOS and nothing had changed except that my boot up assignments were gone. No boot drive was listed. I looked into that and found the boot drive and re-established it. Then it booted.

I went into Reliability monitor, but that was inconclusive. But Event Viewer shows an event just before the crash:

And I am getting a whole schwak of Hypervisor errors. I don't use a virtual machine and hyper-V is not enabled in BIOS?

Am I looking at broken hardware? Or a configuration problem?

I should mention that temps, voltages and clocks were normal at the time of the crash. My status display froze too with this helpful information.

I've seen power spikes do this sort of thing. Not saying that's what it is but the lack of dump files and the sudden freezing jogs my memory. (No pun intended.)

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
sort of like my computer specs, try a Nvidia driver 3 or months old... lately Nvidia jacked up a few things.. any other updates recently? if any?

i found this.
I finally talked to Dell support and they helped me fix the freezing issue by uninstalling Killer Intelligence Center. They also helped update the BIOS and the Killer Wireless driver. It turns out the Control Panel\System and Security\Security and Maintenance\Reliability Monitor can tell you what applications caused the freeze. For me, it was all from the Killer xTend Utility service and KillerAPS. It happened whenever Windows update started in the background.

I checked the cabling... All is secure

Reliability monitor was inconclusive. It didn't mention the program I was using and that crashed. And nothing happened around the time of the crash.

When the crash happened, the hard drive light was still blinking like it was reading or writing data, but the system was completely unresponsive.

I am using an older Nvidia driver -> 566.xx I believe.

I am starting to wonder if this might be related to my Logitech mouse and keyboard. This is not the first time that I have had a screen lockup with a dead mouse and keyboard, but I was always able to get out of what I was doing and back to the desktop to reboot (ALT-F4 seemed to work ok). The only problem with my theory is that any of the Logi utilities and drivers don't show up in reliability monitor or the event viewer when this happens.

Lots of Hyper-V errors, but no mouse or keyboard listings in event viewer.

do you use vm? if not you can go into your bios and turn off virtualization to eliminate that as a possible cause

A reboot sorts vast majority.

In the end, rarely anything to worry about unless it keeps reocurring.

You can endlessly chase your tail trying to get to the bottom of something that is probably almost impossible to identify, or you can simply relax and pay such gremlins no attention.

I would not rule it out. Logitech of yesteryear is not the Logi we know today. I freed myself from many issues like what you are describing once I got away from using the very invasive utility software that they so generously provide. I no longer use the over-priced keyboard and mouse that I purchased when I made the error of associating them with the Logitech from that bygone era when their hardware was reliable. Of course this is just my own opinion, but I think the sooner you get away from using that company's hardware and their utility software the better off you will be.

Perhaps a week ago I came back to my sleeping computer and was unable to wake it.
Powered off and back on and BIOS bitched.
F5 to default and set cpu fan speed, DRAM freq, and Boot stuff and all was once again fine. Never before or after.
I have a UPS so I can't claim power spike/fault.
Act of god depends on which religion you are buying into/blaming at the moment.
I have some 386,000 files on my C drive and that is only windows as I separate other stuff to other partitions.
Maybe one of them took a coffee break.
Who knows!!!
If it repeats, I take note. If not, I ignore. (probably a non repeatable video driver problem, imho).

btw I would note that sometimes Corsair keyboards/mice do not play well with others. I believe I have tamed the keyboard but the mouse still occasionally double clicks. If it really bothers me I will just go back to the logitech mouse as it is a widely known prob w corsair. I do not allow either to wake computer, else can't dependably sleep. just fyi.

It happened again a couple of days ago. I am looking hard at my Logitech software for this one. The PC stayed running with disk activity during the crash, but the PC was totally unresponsive.

I upgraded my Nvidia drivers as well and the crashing hasn't happened since, but I am going to do a complete re-install this weekend and see what happens. Clear out the cobwebs, so to speak.

Be sure to do a clean scrub on that Logi software. It really sinks in its hooks. Revo uninstaller (advanced mode) should do it.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.
You are actually using logitech software????? don't. stock win drivers do just fine. same for corsair. Check Device Mgr in Control Panel and look at all HID stuff and make sure no logi drivers. HID devices = ""games"" driver junk = advertising for the company and stuff you really don't need.

Yeah, but I have one of those pretty lighted keyboards and I have the colours mapped to certain keys for easy navigation/typing, etc. I am not sure it would work without the $^@&^%# Logi software.

Love the keyboard, just hate the drivers and software, I guess.

Yes, mine is lighted with many settings but I do not use any of their software and I had to turn off all the HID settings for both keyboard and mouse else it kept waking.
