Solved Reboot parameters?

Hi,

My Dell 5510 laptop is on almost 24/7. I work on it and occasionally watch movies.....

My question is when should I reboot it?

What parameters are a sign for a reboot, besides W11 updates requiring one?

I only restart my laptop when Windows Update requires it or if I start having a problem with an app (like acting slow/non-responsive)... other than that, why bother?

As @Archigos says, you only need to do it when something is not responsive, but it really depends what you are doing e.g. registry changes often do not kick in until rebooted. Backup/Restore tools often require reboots. Also Windows's cleanup of temporary garbage (a factor in responsiveness) leaves a lot to be desired.

One of the biggest issues about not rebooting is you can get complacent about saving data. So personally, I would say you should boot once a day just to keep things running sweet rather than waiting for issues to build up, and to ensure you save data at the end of the day (of course, you should save much more frequently than that). .

There is no right or wrong - server versions of Windows are designed to run 24/7.

Also, turning off pc saves energy (provided you turn off mains adapter as well - these days every penny counts!

In the end, you have to play it by ear.
