OS
win 11
I've spent hours updating 6 of my 8 windows 11 computers. The last two are behaving like recalcitrant children. The first is a laptop that is compatible with 11 and already updated to 22h2. I want to complete the cumulative update. Instead of updating to the 22h2 cumulative update it continues updating to 21h2 cumulative updates. Bizarre.

The second one is an old tower in which I successfully installed 11. A look at the system information confirms that it is running 11 v. 21h2. Yet when I try to update to 22h2 it says my system is incompatible even though it is already running 11. All the other incompatible computers updated without incident. Doubly bizarre. Microsoft could have made life easier for us. I guess I will install cleanly with a 22h2 iso. This is a backup computer so I can live with a clean installation. Pain in the britches.

Instead of updating to the 22h2 cumulative update it continues updating to 21h2 cumulative updates.
Please post screenshots of the WinVer command's dialog box both before & after that Cumulative update.
Which Cumulative update is it?

Downloaded the cumumulative update and got it installed. All appears to be normal now. I'm convinced that some of these problems arise from Microsoft, not the computers we are trying to update.

For the 22H2 computer, search for Disk Cleanup and run it. Select to also delete Windows Update cache. Now search for updates again and you should be offered only applicable 22H2 updates. For the 21H2 computer, if it is not Windows 11 compliant (or is running Windows 11 in Legacy BIOS mode), you won't be offered to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2 in Windows Update. You have to manually download the ISO and bypass compatibility check. See relevant thread, latest posts, for details how to upgrade to 22H2.

I'm aware of that. That computer was compliant. 22H2 cumulative update came up and 21H2 cumulative updates downloaded. I waited one day and the 22H2 update came up and installed normally. I can't see how it was the computer doing that unless mine has some opinion about what day it is.

The other recalcitrant computer which was already running Win 11 told me my computer was non compliant. Obviously I had resolved that when I installed 11 in the first place. I finally fdisked the drive, did a clean install with the current iso. The cumulative update came up and installed normally. There was something on the drive that win 11 didn't like. Hopefully It won't happen again. Luckily this was a back up system.
