Rufus error while formatting

Keep getting this weird error trying the burn the .194 iso onto a usb. Tried different ports, usb drives and even a different machine (both running dev 22463) This morning it worked no problem transferring 458 to 463.

Any ideas? I've formatted the drive several times and tried again all with the same result

Use an older version instead of 3.15 (assuming you're on 3.15 - if you're on an older version try 3.15 next).

Reason I say is that with 3.15 I could not get the Dev 22454 build to a flash drive, tried multiple ones, switched to 3.14 and it worked perfectly fine the first time.

Went back as far as 3.10, same result. Balena Etcher is flashing it without issue

Thanx.. It's something the developer needs to fix... There is no error code so I can't offer a solution...

The developer needs to replicate it in debug to find the cause - it could be a Windows 11 new feature (I found one such anomaly in Win 11 and had to release a fix in ShowKeyPlus 1.1.17.0 ( Store version) just recently.

No worries, it worked fine to get from previous dev 458 to 463. Beauties I suppose of being an insider

Have you tried using Diskpart Clean on your troublesome UFD?

Rufus 3.15, I was able to create a USB media without any problems.

This almost always fixes unbootable / unformattable USB Flash Drives.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the following commands.
Replace the "X" with the number of your UFD.
(I usually include the format command as an indication that it is working. You can still format it to whatever you like afterwards with any other tool.)

diskpart
list disk
select disk X
list disk (Do this to confirm the correct disk. There will be a star next to the selected disk)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=FAT32 quick
assign
exit
exit

Definitely something funky going on with the dev build causing it, went back to beta 194 using Macrium and Rufus flashed the ISO

Hello all...I have run into this issue multiple times. It is frustrating to say the least. The link here explains a possible workaround. It worked for me. Basically, they are claiming it is a Windows 11 issue. Several times I have had to revert back to Windows 10 clean install, and as soon as I did this Rufus created the bootable USB stick without issues. Last night when I found this web page the workaround worked flawlessly.

As I said, W11 dev 462 wouldn’t play with Rufus, W11 beta 194 has no issues

22454 would not get installed to my USB via Rufus 3.15 even after a diskpart clean procedure (which I always do for all my drives before flashing a .ISO / clean installing an OS anyway).

It just did not like that .ISO.

I'm about to try Rufus 3.15 with build 22463, will report results in a bit.

I have been waiting a week and a half for this tread to pop. The same issue here cannot create a bootable USB with Rufus with the latest Dev .
