General See Windows 11 Restart Time

  • Staff
Restart_Time_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how long it takes Windows 11 to restart and get back to the desktop.

It would be recommended to disable the delay of running startup apps below to get a more accurate restart time.

You can also view the startup logs in Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) in the Applications and Services Logs (takes a moment to load) > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Microsoft-Windows-Diagnostics-Performance/Operational log. The logs will be in the middle to show you what ran at startup, how long it took, and more.

Here's How:

1 Click/tap on the Download button below to download the BAT file below.

Restart-Time.bat

@Brink - since I had Win 10 installed using the Move Users folder tutorial on 10F, This bat file tried to use C:\users\Public, which doesn't exist - and creates it. But even if I run it with admin privileges, upon reboot the file is not accessible by the .bat, and nothing is in the log file.

I'll try playing with it to make is use Public regardless of where \Users actually exists.

Hello John, :-)

You can change the path in the command in the BAT file to use the correct path of where you moved it to.

Does that app match the time shown in task manager "last bios time"?

Hello mate, :-)

No, it's not the same as the restart time.

The Last BIOS time metric is the amount of time in seconds that the UEFI firmware spends identifying and initializing hardware devices and running a power-on self-test (POST) before it begins booting Windows 10 when you start the computer.

What I got was a box that tells me that I might be running an unsafe app and I opt to run it. Other than that it runs with no issues.. if you run into a problem please post a screen shot.

I actually found this batch file produces best results when run twice. First time takes care of any lingering items in need of post-restart cleanup. Second time goes straight through the process. Also observed that laptops with connected dock boot faster if booted without dock attached. Interesting, eh?
Thanks,

@Brink
I just used the .vbs file from the sevenforums site. Works perfectly on W11. Any chance you could make that available to our 11forum members as well? (Many of them are probably not W7Forums members, and wouldn't have access to the files there.)
