This is mine:

I have a rant. They tell you it's 1Gig connection But, it's really 100 MB/s . They say it's now the norm
to advertise in Mb/s. I see that as False advertising. They are misleading people who don't know better.
I have told Rogers (my provider) as much many times and they keep telling me that is the way it's done.
I call BS on those money hungry (explicit). Even ookla has it in Mb/s. I can remember and not so long ago
that, the speeds were reported in MB/s. Really faffs me off. End of rant.

When I started using the internet, everything was "Baud" and I always found that very unhelpful. When I worked as a network admin, networking speeds were always in bits/second, rather than bytes, so I would disagree that they used to use Bytes/second, although marketing folks may have done. This was my point. I'll have to fire up my Eurocom from 2012 as I still have most of my screens on there.
When I first got connected it was through a phone line but, never paid attention to what was offered , I
think it was 300 bits/s or so. Not sure. And then, I remember Bell Canada providing me with a 5MB/s line.
This is what I'm talking about. It used to be advertised as MB/s. Just recently they switched to Mb/s.
Maybe data centres used the Mb/s but , commercial companies started using the MB/s ads. and did so
until this year. If I can recover those screens , I'll post them here.

All networking is measured in bits per second. Always has been. 10 megabits, 100 megabits, 1gigabit. Never have I ever seen network gear or ISP's measuring anything in megabytes per second.
