I have a Verizon FIOS 300/300 connection.
One thing I like about Verizon, is that they don't skimp on the upload speed.

And except for the occasional power failure (on my end), they never go down. ^^

Well, I'm lucky to get this (on fixed wireless) way out in the country. They're promising to replace 50/10 with 100/25 sometime soon, but they've been saying that for two years now.

Wi-Fi is not bad on the newly installed 2G Fibre Network except for several tweeks and hardware issues, but the ISP is responsible for their end. By any rate, the Fibre is impressive and quite exceptional as this is out in the boonies and not home like The West End beckons return to me...

More than nice; Absolutely amazing! But what does it mean? You think you can download a three-hour movie in ten seconds? And if so, is it watchable?
Sorry. I’m just trying to make sense of some of these amazing speeds.

I have roughly the same download speed, I can get 3tb in about 1.5 minutes. It’s the upload speed I drool over. And the ping.

Regarding Speedtest on Windows 10/11, the Microsoft Store app gives better results, than running Speedtest on Microsoft Edge.

On Linux, Speedtest gives the same good results, when run on Microsoft Edge. There is no negative effect of using Microsoft Edge on Linux.

With 1 Gbps connection, you do not download with this speed most of the time.

I have found that, in practice, I usually get 200-300 Mbps download and upload, on various servers, with multithreaded downloads.

When I get 1 Gbps downloads (105 - 115 MB/sec), most of the time they happen in seconds, because the files are downloaded almost immediately. It is like you copy something locally, rather than downloading it.

If you want to use your Fiber connection at its maximum speed, always use a download manager that supports multiple download threads.

I am using the Free Download Manager, using 20 download threads.

I haven't gotten to my mobile as of yet, rather spot on and quite close for different devices. Xfinity is a great ISP in my opinion, I'm not with them any longer. I frequently use that server in Courtland, Trinity, and New Hope with a great showing.

In my home I have found that the 5GHz band to be faster than the 2.4GHz band. However, the 2.4GHz band in theory has more range so might give a better connection in some circumstances. Some of other computers have slower WiFi so would give much slower results. When I had a combined SSID my laptop would sometimes connect to 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz. I only knew that when the download speeds dropped to maybe 300Mbps instead of 800Mbps. Because of that I split the bands so each one has a different SSID.

I have an Xfinity XB8 WiFi 6E Gateway which has 2.4, 5, and 6GHz bands. I though I would have a 6E device by now but don't.
Normally, Xfinity Gigabit Extra is 1200/35 but was upped to 1200/200 when I signed up for xFi Complete. BTW, My current discount rate ends next month so I may have to drop down to a lower tier if the price goes up too much.

I try not to complain too much. I stared with a 300baud modem. Typical downloads speeds was maybe 30 bytes/sec. Now that was slow!!!

BTW, back in 2000-2001 when they first introduced high speed Internet they offered 1.5Mbps. In their adds they said up to 50 times faster than dialup. Note the typical 56K dialup modem could download about 30Kbps which is about 50 times slower than higher speed Internet.

You just triggered the trauma of that dial-up sound. The Horror… the horror

In this current house we built, we built in a vaguely remote area. No broadband connections and extremely old copper wiring so we couldn’t even get dial-up.
I’ll tell you what slow is, slow is a satellite dish on your roof with no satellites overhead.

I didn’t really use the internet for 4 years until they got cables up our road. Email, if I was lucky was the best I could get, as long as they didn’t have attachments.
