Yup. OC is always only an option. I have to say it was probably the easiest OC I've ever done. Whoever "they" are they should be proud. I know my girl is proud of her rig and teases me that her build is faster than my main. I cool her jets real fast when I remind her I can always dial it back down for her. lol

My previous build before the X570 is also an i7-4790K on ASRock Z97 Xtreme6 board. I still have that build and running under my desk from time to time. It's the first build I had with M.2 SSD (but I already got rid of the M.2 SSD and replaced it with a regular SSD).

My wife is rocking a 4770K and she's quite pleased with it. Any suggestion of an upgrade only results in that LOOK 👀 that only a wife can give. She also likes the case because it's solid bubble gum pink and has a hinged door on the front that sports analog gauges giving it a slight steam punk appeal. I also still have my very first M.2 build and I'm typing via that build at this very moment. I noticed you have a thing for Thermal Take cases. I do too. I'm including a picture of my first M.2 build which found a home inside a slightly modded Level 10 GT.

Gotta luv those older Alienware cases. They sure don't make 'em like they used to. My first M.2 build was onboard. I have a number of PCs using NVMe adapter cards now, including my X99 build. The loss of speed is negligible for my purposes. They've really come a long way on those cards too. One thing that I do like about the X570 system board is that the Q code logger is on the top right hand corner making it easy to read through the glass panel. I never did quite understand why board manufacturers would always put the logger on the bottom of the board.

By the way, are your 4790K builds running on 24H2 already? Mine is still on 23H2 and I am not sure if it is still upgradable to 24H2? Is it? If so, please help with the link within this forum on how I can upgrade it to 24H2. By ASRock Z97 Xtreme6 mobo has TPMS port but I don't have a TPM module for it. I just used the Rufus method to install Win 11 in it. Thank you.

I really don't see why it would not! If it has instructions 4.2 you'll Golden. Just be sure to use Rufus or Flyby11

I don't even see a good reason to bother with 24H2 unless you're really keen on allowing Windows AI access to your PC. Co-Pilot generates so many nasty issues IMO it isn't even worth the bother. If you do use Rufus even if you have a TPM module it likely won't give you full Windows 11 operation and you may wind up with something that looks like this:

I tried it just now. It went smoothly with Rufus 4.6 (in-place upgrade not clean install).
If I run into any issue, I still have my 23H2 Macrium Image.

Glad to learn the installation worked well for you. I'd be interested to see what would happen with a TPM2 module. Because I use multi-boot on this unit I disabled 'insecure boot' and went with HVCI. IMO secure boot is a joke anyway. I do find it ironic that an older DDR3 platform would be more Win 11 compatible than a newer DDR4 platform. I have a permanent bang on my turbo which is no big deal since my CPU is clocked at 4+ GHz anyway. You may want to look into that bang on your ADATA drive. :-)

LED flashlight and a Philips head screwdriver.
You can have all the hardware in the world, but if you don't have those two items, you just aren't prepared. :-)

I just bought "yesterday" on eBay another bundle "ASRock Z97 Extreme4 with the 4790K and 16 Gig of ram" shipped to me for $119.00. This will be my third one. :D

Edit: I have a "new" install of 24H2 on another drive, it's been working flawlessly, but I don't use it much, I just try and plug it in enough, to keep up with the updates.

I used to multiboot on my 4790K box but regular updates somehow mess up boot managers and it is a pain to always fix it so I decided to just add tool less SSD trays on my case and just boot on specific drives that I want to boot up. This way i can also just enable secure boot and whatnot and do whatever I want with it being just a secondary test rig anyway.

It is still running an old R9 270 GPU that I revived 4 years ago (This post)

I can relate, been there done that. It's pretty easy for me, I have multiple drives with multiple different os's stack up right in front of my PC, with a sata power and data cable just hanging outside of the case. I can shut down one drive/os and change drives to another drive/os in about one minute, and that's moving slow. Now when I want to stick in my PCIe card with an os on it, it might take 30 seconds longer. :D

I guess I just want to see how far this 4790K can keep up with the latest Windows. I will stop updating until it can't update anymore. Otherwise, this PC is not going to see a lot of use from me. It will be like keeping a Windows XP in an old box.

So far my rig is running smoothly on the 24H2 OS. But like you said, I guess we will see what the future brings.
