The hardware issue could be outside of your machine, ie cable, connector etc

Agreed. Because of the test with the USB adapter...
It pretty much has to be one of the following...

Something in Windows itself (not driver related, and common to both USB the adapter and motherboard Realtek chip),
Ethernet cable, router/modem (?), or ISP.

It is interesting that now, after another Win11 repair, its running flawlessly. I am really curious when it starts to crash again.
Its not ISP, other machines at my home are without issues. It's either cable (too bad I don't have any, but will buy one soon), or something in Windows 11.

In the US ( I noticed you mentioned you were in Europe), stores like Best Buy, Walmart, and Home Depot... all sell Ethernet cables. I don't know what stores you have, that might be comparable.

As for the Win 11 repair... that should fix all Windows only problems. So, IF after a day or two the problem comes back.... it could be some 3rd party program is changing something, or possibly, some kind of malware.

Also... if it only happens when you are playing a certain game, or running a certain program...
that could help you find the cause.

Remember... a Win 11 repair install ONLY fixes Windows problems.
It won't fix driver or 3rd party program, problems.

Do you have the capability on your desktop to switch to wireless (adapter, wi-fi dongle, etc) to see how Windows 11 networking behaves under that option?

p.s. I did that on my desktop about a month ago and after wireless tested fine, I disconnected Ethernet at pc and at modem/router, reset the modem, and both ethernet and wi-fi have been working fine so far.

No I do not have. I would need to buy a USB wi-fi adapter.
What just came into my mind is to create a hotspot from my cellphone and try to connect to internet via cable... to see if it also drops...
But now I am good after the repair, so I am not touching anything I guess

Hope it stays ok now. If it starts again, I would be tempted to reinstall Windows 10 and see if it stays ok or still happens. If it still happens then it's coincidental and probably the cable or connector. But probably easier to try another cable first. Also - just a thought - could it be something to do with the router?

Interesting idea and one which I have never done…. Tethering the desktop via a usb cable with a hotspot cellphone. The tether eliminates the need for a wireless adapter.
I will have to try that sometime.

You say it started happening one day after you upgraded to 11. Of course that would make one first think it is the OS. But don't lose sight that the timing of it happening could also be a coincidence. It can just as easily be a defective network adapter, router, or your internet service itself is actually dropping.
Before you chase your tail to hell and back eliminate all the possibilities.

Do you have other devices using your internet? If not, borrow someone's laptop, preferably one that has both both ethernet and wireless as a router uses separate components inside it to handle the 2 types of connections. Connect using both connections. If connection drops, look toward your router or ISP. If connection doesn't drop, then concentrate on your computer's hardware or OS.

If it ends up definitely pointing toward your computer, backup your data and do a clean install.

Once it starts dropping more frequently again, I will do a clean install. Question is, should I do a clean install of Win10 (where I never had this kind of issue before) or should I give another chance to Win11?

I had Windows 10 running clean and tight. So, I did an In-Place Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will "look" like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations.
Your drivers, programs and data will be intact.

- There are no issues with other machines at my home. Including laptop (Windows 10), iPad, iPhone. My laptop is connected via ethernet and no issue. But is Windows 10.
- Truth is, that it's happening only on my Windows 11 desktop machine: MSI B450M PRO-M2 V2 (MS-7B84) Performance Results - UserBenchmark
- I will get a new ethernet cord on Saturday, so I will swich the cable and will see.
- If it continues, I will do a clean install as a last hope.

Ghot, please read previous posts, I already did a repair of Windows 11 using .iso image. Twice.
I am not using any antivirus sw (only the Windows default one), not firewall or drive encryption software.
As I said in previous post few minutes ago, I will do a clean install (I still wonder if I will go back to Win10 or should I risk Win11) once it's gonna start dropping even after changing the cord.

No. I guess I didn't make that clear. I'm NOT saying to repair Windows 11.

I'm saying to do an In-Place upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

You know how you use a Win 11 ISO to repair Windows 11?
Well, what I am suggesting (I've done this), is to use a Win 11 ISO to repair Windows 10.

1. Do a clean install of Windows 10.
2. Install your programs and do your tweaks.
3. THEN, use a Windows 11 Iso, to "repair" the new Windows 10 install.

When you are finished, the Windows 10, will NOW be... Windows 11.

An In-Place Upgrade and a Repair Install, are the same thing. They just have different names.

Just look at the title of this tutorial...

Ah ok, Ghot, but what is the point of installing Windows 10? If I would install Win10 and have no further issues, I will definitely stay with Win10 instead of risking that after updating to Win11 I will start having same issues.
What makes more sense to me is to do a clean install of Windows 11 and then, if issue reoccurs, I will do a clean install of Windows 10.

I just mentioned that so you would know it was possible.
The reason I did it was because I was very good at Windows 10, but Windows 11 was very new.

So... I figured since I already had Windows 10 working so well, I should just use the In-Place Upgrade to jump up to Windows 11.
