Slowness and lag after latest Windows update?

Has anyone else noticed a distinct lag when opening a program since the May 24th update? Sometimes I have to click on icons two or three times to get a program to load, even ones on the taskbar. Sometimes it will load the program twice due to my extra clicking.

Everything seems to work all right, though. sfc /scannow and DISM all check out with no errors.

I wonder if MS made a little boo-boo with this release...

Thoughts?

Same here, though not as pronounced as yours. I wait a second or two after double-clicking.

I'm not detecting any slowness here. My computer seems just as fast as always. My brisk Internet speed helps when using Edge. Apps load instantly as always.

Happens here too, but only immediately after bootup, and only trying to open MS Office documents. The Office apps themselves open really fast, but opening a document takes about 10 seconds.

However, several minutes after bootup they open fast. It's as of its taking the computer longer to fully "boot"

KB5014019 is a Update preview, no reason to install Update previews :)
But, back to the OP, if the update is a Update preview, just uninstall it, and wait for the update (I call them the real thing) on the 2nd Tuesday of June.
You probably installed the .NET Framework Update preview ???

Office applications like Excel open very slowly when in 'protected mode', otherwise most applications are working fine.

Is it possible that my installing the KB5014019 Update Preview fixed the slowness problem that others here are reporting?

I don't seem to have an issue with apps crashing, they are just really slow to open.

Nope. I didn't install the .NET preview, but maybe I will uninstall the main OS update preview and see what happens. Or maybe I should try to update .NET 3.5 and see what happens? It can't get worse...
