Hi folks
anybody using Snip and sketch as opposed to snipping tool -- for me the snipping tool is just so simple and does what I need so I'm still using it -- what about others. I tried Snip and sketch and went straight back to Snipping Tool. - OK I know new software often needs an adjustment but it didn't really offer me anything over what I have now and an used to using. I'm not in favour of "Change just for Change's sake".

Agree completely. To me, Snipping Tool is very intuitive to use. The replacement isn't.

I just tried the Snipping Tool and got a warning that it is moving. Is that a polite way of MS saying that it's days are numbered?

I believe I technically use the Snipping tool but I never open it. I only use the shortcut:

WINKEY + SHIFT + S

It's the only shortcut I've ever needed for screenshots. Copies entire screen, active window, or any section of your screen to your clipboard for easy access.

Originally shipped with Windows 8.1 Pro in 2014, upgraded to 10, and now Windows 11.
I must say, I prefer to use the Snipping Tool for its simplicity. Snip & Sketch does have one thing in its favour though. When I want to capture something like the right-click options on the Start menu (that would vanish if I click elsewhere to take a snip) I use the delayed snip option. Sometimes the Snipping Tool's 5 seconds is not long enough to set things up, Snip & Sketch offers a 10 second delay.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. ... the Snipping Tool's 5 seconds is not long enough to set things up, Snip & Sketch offers a 10 second delay.
That is precisely one of the reasons I use Greenshot... hover>PrtScrn..., and shows the mouse pointer...
(None of this set up delay bullsh*t then quickly open up what you want to capture!!!)

Hi folks
Thanks for replies -- all sorts of 3rd party tools available -- however for the really few simple things I do snipping tool is fine - I usually want to simply capture an area.

@Edwin -- sometimes a delay is quite useful before capture unless you want to capture the entire screen - in that case I simply use prt screen key , open a word document, paste into word and then capture the bit from image that I need -- useful for capturing pop up menus etc which disappear again if any keyboard action is done.

The only thing it seems to be lacking is a decent capture also of the mouse arrow -- I'm on my Linux laptop currently where spectacle is a good screen capture tool similar in simplicity to snipping tool but with user selectable delay time and decent mouse cursor capture.

To capture entire screen I use PrtSc and paste it in Paint to edit it.

Hi there
Similar process -- any "workable program" that does the job. I'm a bit like Kari in that I prefer to use Windows built in stuff rather than 3rd party apps for essentially "System related things" if they do the job simply and efficiently. Sometimes as for backup things like Macrium are perfectly OK or Photoshop , VLC etc for other things. However that's another discussion entirely !!!!

Hi folks
anybody using Snip and sketch as opposed to snipping tool -- for me the snipping tool is just so simple and does what I need so I'm still using it -- what about others. I tried Snip and sketch and went straight back to Snipping Tool. - OK I know new software often needs an adjustment but it didn't really offer me anything over what I have now and an used to using. I'm not in favour of "Change just for Change's sake".

I use Snip & Sketch. It has a timer that lets me grab screenshots that normally disappear when pressing any keys or mouse clicks.

Snip and sketch takes a bit of getting used to -- it's good to have both as snipping tool is so quick, easy and convenient for most things. For capturing screenshots that disappear for example when a key shot is pressed then snip and sketch is just fine.

actually Snipping Tool has a delay option too, so can also capture those screenshots that disappear on any key press - but it's a maximum of only 5 seconds (not always enough time to set up what you want to capture) whereas Snip & Sketch has a 10 second delay.
