Afternoon all

i bought a second hand laptop that had non working speakers BUT the headphone port works and bluetooth works so it didnt boher me,
been having a look around the board and cant see anything out the ordinary, tried unplugging and plugging the headphones to get the sensor to trip but it seems as that is working fine.
i took the speakers out and wired them to somthing else and it made the device they were connect to go mental so i tried the 2nd one and same thing so i asumed the speakered were dead, borrowed the laptops speaker header and wire to test a speaker i have hanging around and NOTHING, i get a buzz but nothing else so this reallly confused me, i have tried drivers install reinstall, tried other drivers, compatibility, you name it ive probably tried it, the fact the headphone jack works is stumping me as one of the speakers is connected to the board the Headphone jack is on.

does anyone have any idea what on earth this is haha its driving me round the bend XD

Since when you moved the speakers themselves to another device and that device "went mental" , You then connected known good speakers to your board and still have no sound, a new header, still no sound, here other things to consider.

Headphone jack sense switch. If it’s stuck/broken, the system always routes audio to headphones only.

The chip that powers the laptop’s internal speakers (often separate from the codec) might have failed. This is a common failure point if headphones still work.

Motherboard damage. Not common but can happen if a power spike hit the system.(the path between the audio codec and amp/speakers) A power spike could have taken out this part of the mobo as well as the speakers at the same time.

i saw on a few forums tht mentioned the Jack sence but what put me off that idea is when i plug in a headphone in the bottom corner realtek pops up asking what ive plugged in.

i have a strong feeling the chip that does the speakers is fried as you said but ive no idea where it is because i dont know what it looks like, tried looking online but to no avail

you mention power spike an that i think may have happened at some point as on the right it has 2x USB3.1 ports and one of them is a Power off charger but it dosnt work, i used a multi meter and power output is 0.004v but the one next to it is a healthy 5v
