Windows 11 Home
Hi,

I just bought a new SSD and installed Windows 11 Home.

menu.webp

I used paint to make a red rectangle to show the "area" of the taskbar I'd love to hide. I added Downloads and Settings for demonstration purpose.
Is there a way to completely remove (or hide) the left side of Windows 11 menu ?

What's the best application to customize Windows 11 Start Menu ? Start 11, StartAllBack ? Or a good mod in Windhawk ? (like Windows 11 Start Menu Style).

Of course, I'd prefer a free application, if possible.

Thanks for your feedback and help !
Aurel.

The whole point of that Start menu is to show your installed Applications so why would it provide a function to hide them?

That screenshot you posted doesn't look like Windows 11. it's more like Windows 10. Unless Windows 11 Home version is different, I've only ever used Pro.

Aurhelye, in your image example, if you didn’t have the area in the yellow box, you wouldn’t be able to expand the items in the blue box.

I’ll take another look at the possible Start11 layouts.

I use Start11v2

I don't really have time right at this minute to inspect all of the options, but you could have the following. It's a little wide for my liking but like I said, just tonight, I don't have much time to play with it.

Win-1741.webp

Win-1739.webp

I will take a closer look at it tomorrow but for the time being, this would be the main option to achieve the top menu image.

Thanks you for the screenshots ! It looks very neat with Start11v2 !

Now, I made a custom "Start Button" using Zelda Triforce. When hovering it, there is a glow effect. Not perfect, but it looks quite good.

Thank you very much for the well explained tutorial antpants !
Now I'm working on an "animated" Windows Start button. It's working. Normal, hovered, pressed. Need to work more on it.

I am going to give a try to Start11v2 ! Your screens looks clean.
I've been using Open-Shell in the past but I was wondering if it was the still the best tools to customize Windows 11 Start Menu.

It as is good that it is open source.
I downloaded the source code from Open-Shell Github and having a look at it now.
