Solved Suddenly getting this repeatedly.

An update confused the location with C:\Users\DAW\Onedrive\Desktop ? Just a thought.
I have another problem, where the explorer sometimes is getting ridiculously slow.

[Rant] One of the first things I did when I installed 11 was get rid of OneDrive. Uninstalled, deleted from File Explorer, and removed from the registry. Don't need it, don't want it, and dumped it. I do, however use both Google Drive and iCloud Drive for cloud storage. As for OneDrive, its strength is in keeping track of all the user folders that I never use, so when I started on Windows 10 and checked my OneDrive storage after a while, I found a lot of emptiness. Macrium Reflect keeps my backups and does it on demand, without any interference with anything else.[End Rant]

Hi, Nick. Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the thought.

Windows 11 updates find no OneDrive on this system, so I don't think there could be any confusion.

Really sorry to hear your 11 Explorer is running slow. Mine's fine still. Are you running 22000.194?

Dan

I don't understand. Did you think I moved any folders? All my user folders are in their original places on C: I create my own folder system on a separate drive and all my downloads, pics, etc. go into those folders, leaving the original user folders permanently empty.

If I accidentally deleted the empty Desktop in my user folder, the on-purpose recreation of a substitute empty Desktop folder seems to have been all I needed.
And that is all you needed. I have take the same action several times for other reasons.

Seems to be holding without issues. If the pop-up occurs again and there's still a (make-believe) Desktop in my user's folder, I'll post again to see what other solutions may be offered.

That's a bit extreme. If you understood OneDrive and how it worked, you'd realize you didn't need to do all of that and still not have to use OneDrive.

Anyway, for me in letting the OS operate keep all the folders on the same drive and intact eliminates any confusion or users issues. Instead I simply move the data itself around. Example, since I have multiple drives in my system, I dedicate drive to a particular data - Photos, Music, Games, Misc. And of course the OS drive with everything in tack.

I also use OneDrive as a drop-box to access certain files from any of my other PC's. Works like a champ - work on a project on my laptop, drop those files in OneDrive, and access them on my desktop.

Yeah, I have Google Drive, but I don't use it since I also have OneDrive. That's me.

So long as it was installed on my PCs, every major update made it kick in again and start uploading to its servers. I think performance took a hit when it was running, but ... That's me.

Perhaps you've never taken the time to configure it? You might say you did, but in my experience those only happen cause you leave things at default.

Now if it's because you use Macruim to restore the PC, perhaps you need to configure things "before" creating a restore image. That's the way I'd do it, and have done it.

And OneDrive is no more a performance hit then Windows Explorer is.... Regardless, your PC, your way. I'm simply pointing out that there are other options.

From that tutorial are a number of other links in it from configuring OneDrive to completely removing it.

Good luck.
