Windows 11 Pro
System has been nice for about a week, then this morning, tabs crashing syndrome on the interwebs no matter which browser I use. This has been going on ever since I upgraded to 11 about 6 weeks ago, definitely a learning experience. It will sail along just fine for several days, then I get the quick black screen before page display when opening any browser. When that happens, I know it will continue to degrade in a day or two to tab crash city. One other thing when this happens, it is very hard to type as the letters repeat themselves rapidly, makes getting to system restore a trip. A bit annoying to say the least. The restore process has been the only answer to 'bring it back).

Wondering out loud if anyone is experiencing anything similar with their Win 11 rig...

Nope. But your CPU is first of all 10-13 years old. Secondly you have overclocked it according to your system specs. Then also your CPU isn't supported, while that may not be a big issue, old drivers may be. That's probably your issue.

I use the sfc /scannow and the DISM commands regularly, more than usual actually. Been building for decades, this OS has been the most frustrating experience ever, Win10 was super solid in my world. I have a clone of my Win10 install, so I always have that option to go back, I have far exceeded any time limit doing the 'go back' inside windows.

Every time it does the 'hiccup' it is the same symptoms, rapid repeat keystroking system wide, any program, everything. The internet shows hooked and working, but that is a lie....it just crashes tabs in every browser. If I try to do a malware/virus scan during these 'hiccups', it will start then crash. Frustrating. My only work around is system restore, a savior. Or just go back to Win 10. biting the bullit....

Yes, you are absolutely correct, the CPU is old. It is a super chip, had it for a long time, always ran @4/4.`1 on stock voltage. However, when I pull CPUID, it shows the proper instructions are imbedded onboard.1747061629052.webp

This is definitely an OS problem, my guess somewhere in the internet stack. I checked each and every program carried over for compatibility and/or driver problems. I did have to uninstall a couple that didn't cooperate. Cleaned the registry for any remnants. I have several friends with similar problems (tabs crashing in browser, especially since the 24H2 update) and their units came with Win 11 installed.....

As a side note, I have a new motherboard, mems and Ryzen CPU on the way. Same brand motherboard, same brand mems and cpu, reusing my OS drive and secondary, vid card, wifi card, and a DVD/rom all in one (old school). This OS has migrated with updates in place since Win 7, several times with updated hardware including different motherboard, never a problem with activation (retail license), I expect the same results when it is built. Guess I will have to wait to see if that 'solves' the problem. Not holding my breath....

If this has really been upgraded from multiple previous versions of Windows, I not surprised that the install is problematic. Did you ever consider a truly clean install?

Yes, it was and still is a consideration. All my other previous 'upgrades in place' went smoothly. Everything worked perfectly from the get go. I may get slapped for what I am going to say but Win 11 (with a lot of interwebs research on ongoing problems, plus friends with problematic Win 11 units) is not ready at all for 'Prime Time'. Microsoft should be ashamed...

Okay, taking tips from GunrunnerJohn, I took this route. Pasted sysdm.cpl in the run, followed instructions to toggle device manager to show ALL hidden devices, removed a boatload of grayed out drivers. Closed everything after doing the deed and then created another restore point. Now I wait and see what is...

I can't even install this version of Win11 on my AMD laptop. It crash in the middle of the setup, so you're not wrong about it being a Windows issue. 23H2 runs flawlessly for me.

Same problem with a client of mine who got a new laptop (hers came with the 23H2 version), everything super duper, before the 24H2 update, now constant web connection problems, she is so frustrated it now sits unused. Back to her older laptop for now...stick with the 23H2 until they actually fix it. I remember times when win 10 it would get broken with updates, corrupted the store, corrupted the updating function, all sorts of stuff. That is when the DISM commands became mainstream. MS got through it though and it became much more solid with fixes and further updates....maybe this will happen with win 11...another thing to note, I suspect something in the Edge browser is not right, just a feeling and that quick blank black screen when going to different websites is my warning that it is going south....

Hmm... I have two computers, both running Win11 Pro 24H2, no issues at all with connection issues, or anything else for that matter. Other than the learning curve of Microsoft moving all the stuff around from Win10, it's been pretty smooth sailing. My issues have mostly been either stuff that was removed, or learning how to bend some of the Win11 stuff to my will.

Our household has 4 units, my personal unit is the only one with Win 11. I had a boatload of grayed out drivers when I expanded Device Manager hidden devices. Lots, over 20 grayed out drivers removed. Now it is a wait and see what is...

Not sure if that will have an effect. I have tons of shadow devices on my computers. Most of the time they're just devices that are not currently connected. Some probably will never be connected again, others are removable devices that will likely or possibly connected again. In any case, they're not hurting anything. For almost all of them, you'll see this status if you check the properties.

I realized some of them were as you stated, installed when used, hung and around when unplugged and activate when replugged, also had many shadow dups along with exact matching grayed out, also had some stuff that I hadn't used in mega years, best to eliminate any bloat. Got to start somewhere. Win 11 has been a battle since day one. Lag issues at first, removed suspect hardware, things got a lot better, but it is really a touchy (yes, I backed off the OC to stock, made no difference). The quest goes on....BTW, your list is immense and that is only disk drives. I went through every dropdown in all listed devices and did the deed on everything.....

Yep, this has been a fixture of Windows for many generations, the list gradually grows as you use the system. Keep in mind that my installations of Win11 are only a couple of months old, I just retooled both computers and did a fresh install. Note that I had updated Win10 over Win 8.1, and that over Win previously. My Win 10 had gotten to where after three-four days it would slow down, and finally it would not fully wake up from sleep. I finally replaced hardware and software and have a fresh start.

I am stubborn. I can restore, it is just an annoyance. When I migrate over to the new MB, Mems and CPU, maybe it will resolve. I would like to keep my data, pics, and apps installs intact. This includes Office which migrated over without a re-license/activate hassle as some have experienced. So may reasons to stay with my current install....I had just the opposite of your Win 10 install experience, everything worked magnificently including sleep. I figured it would be a slam dunk migrating to 11...alas....

All my data is on a separate logical drive, so installing a fresh Windows installation doesn't affect the data. Other than a handful of config files that get stored in the Program Files folders, there is no data on the boot drive. For instance for email, I install Thunderbird, edit the profiles.ini file to point at the folder on my data drive, and I'm all set. My Documents folder is also on the data drive, as are all my application data folders.

It is the apps, even installed on separate drive (which I have), it still has pathways to the OS to make things work. I really don't want to deal with that by reinstalling krap and dealing with licensing if needed...my docs and pics are already stored to the secondary drive....

Yes, many apps do have strings to the O/S. I guess I don't have any issues with the licensing, so that's not been a factor.
