The Task Manager On The Start Menu Is Not Working


lol I literally wasted 24 hours of mine and HDL’s time.

My script works, less the fact the Run link is being swallowed by Kaspersky and the Shut down or sign out vanished. Im waiting for my system to restore to try the script I changed above. I also added some stuff like Notepad/Control panel etc to mine which also worked.

EDIT: Run still works, not sure what got removed

I should of checked Winaero & Sordum first 👀

Good news: Win+X Menu Editor will restore all the default shortcuts.
Bad news: Restoring will wipe out any non-default shortcuts you may have created in those folders.

I was just looking at it. You can add custom shortcuts and add group folders. Seems pretty good. I’m a horses ass.

adding custom quit working in 23h2, so you're not. you can still add custom if you use start all back, etc though

For spending 24 hours on a script that was already available at Winaero.

One thing I don't get. For HDL's and my WinX menu, Task manager is in Group 2 Folder.
It's my understanding that it should actually reside in the Group 3 Folder. So not sure what's going on there.

This is my understanding, something must have changed?

If you haven't tampered with Default User, all the original shortcuts are copied from its AppData\Local folder. That's how new accounts are provisioned on the first desktop logon.

I betcha AI didn't tell you that.

There's an art to prompting which I seem to be mastering. I don't yet have the skills to complete this on my own without help. But this way is better than any class I could enroll in.
I know this for a fact because I generally hate humans and by day two I'd most likely tell the tutor or other participants where to get off, in most cases I would end up at a cop shop... again.

no, it should be in 2 as far as i know... if you've ever messed your winx up, you can also refer to:

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX

to see the original structure

I took the below quotes from the link/links I was directed to and have a few questions.

“This version is compatible with Windows 10 Creators Update. Here is what's new in this version.” Is it compatible with Windows 11 Pro?

“that does not patch any system files to disable the hash check.” I don’t know what this means, do I need to?

“Starting with version 3.0, I eliminated separate versions for x64 and x86 Windows. From now, a single executable file can be used in both x64 and x86 editions.

Here is what you have to do.
  1. Download Win+X Menu Editor from here.
  2. In the archive, you will find two folders - x64 and x86. For 64-bit Windows, enter the x64 folder, for 32-bit, extract and use the files from x86 folder. Then run WinXEditor.exe to open the app.” I believe I have the single executable file, please see the attachment. The only question I have about it is its date, 5/8/2107. That’s over 8 years ago, so once again, is it compatible with Windows 11 pro?

It’s all good, just download and extract. Only one version now 64bit

Don’t work about the Windows 10 part.
Just unzip the archive and run the app. It is portable so no install.

A member posted Win X menue app (Which I believe is portable and doesn’t install) in your thread.

I tested it, it works.
Run the app
Click on Restore Defaults on the top right
Clck on Restart Explorer if you need to.
It should repair without a reboot.

I just ran the version I have and I still have the same problem. I probably should repair Windows I guess but I'm just going to leave well enough alone right now. I don't know why it didn't work but it didn't.

I would, honestly.
Short of my other suggestion of testing with a new user account, a repair is the way to go.

That app literally resets everything about the WinX menu to defaults so I am guessing something is very broken with either your user account, or Windows needs repairing. Hopefully one of these will work.
