Winaero Tweaker works well on 11. It even permits a return to classic taskbar, which I'm using. That deletes the Windows Start icon in favor of my Open Shell replacement and lets me replace the clock with T-Clock Redux. Further, I could enable the classic File Explorer ribbon. It definitely helps restore some useful features that 11 took away.

No, it's only available if the program is already running on the taskbar. What happened in W10 (and earlier) is that hovering over a running program while dragging a selection of files will bring that program to the front and allow you to drop the files into it. It's this 'bring running app to the front' function that's been removed from 11's Taskbar.

Like this, with PaintShop Pro running in W10.....

And many of the professional users keep it switched on so their windows workflow gets back to the developers and is retained in the OS.

Telemetry is just a way to to poll usage trends. if a user chooses to not send the information then their needs or wants will not be acted on. It's a personal choice that is perfectly valid for both groups

No, we shouldn't need a hack, but the fact is, we do. I'm not even sure what @Brink gave us is a hack . . . one little number change in the Registry, restart File Explorer, and my taskbar is on top! As I've stated elsewhere, I need the taskbar on top.

So, I'll go the easiest route to get what I want, which is Brink's instructions. Don't need no ~~steenkin~~' third party software.

I am with @Wynona on this one, the easiest less intrusive changes (be it 3rd party software or registry changes) the better. The more you change, the greater the chances are to create other unwanted issues.

Also, even though you can't drag and drop from the Start Menu, any item there can be pinned to the taskbar by simply right clicking and clicking pin to taskbar. That how I do it and it works like a champ.

You can also right click an icon in the taskbar and it'll show your most recent items used. An example of this would be Photoshop showing the last images I opened in it, or Excel showing my most recent Excel files opened. You can even pin items to the list so they're always there - You still have to right click and choose the file to open.

Anyway, I think most complaints stem from drag and drop feature missing as well as placement of the taskbar, but none of these are deal breakers for me as I'm still able to use the taskbar as I used it in Windows 10.

I do have a copy of 10 Home on a flash drive and on an HDD on my PC. So.. in a way I'm not totally done with it.. yet.

I'm not asking for a change, I'm asking for what was taken out to be put back in. If MS will not heed the call though, I would be forced to agree with Wynona also.

There are an awful lot of people out there that are asking for their taskbar customization back, and I don't think it's to much to ask for. Yes, If it doesn't come back, regular users and a lot of gamers who will not look up or would be unable to execute registry hacks will be annoyed for a while, but eventually complacency will kick in, and they will just "get over it". I just don't think they should have to. To me, MS crippled the UI. There will be many who disagree, but I don't think that's an overstatement.

BTW: My Sister-in-law just notified me that the company she works for will not be using 11.+

If, what was taken out in WIN 11 does not meet expectations, then why not stay with WIN 10?

If one has a geniune need to modify, they will, but if complacency as you say kicks in and they get over it, what is the real problem as they can still go about their daily needs?

Are those that are asking "for their taskbar customization back" paying customers or are they the majority - home users where Microsoft does not receive much, if any revenue from?

Yes I agree, there are some company's that will not pay to upgrade to WIN 11, and rightly so if the OS they are currently using still meets all its expectations.

That means absolutely nothing as any company's IT department worth their salt will wait, test, and train before deploying. Windows 11 just released to public October 5 of this year, so I doubt any company is in a rush to upgrade. Nothing new here.

I am about ready to roll back to a Windows 10 backup. though it would be a royal PITA. This is just too painful. Microsoft is not migrating fixes for bugs from dev to production release fast enough. I can't use production. Even though the dev channel is more stable and usable for me, it is taking me further and further away from the production release.

Step it up Microsoft.

I thought I was done with 10 until I decided I needed to find things to do when I'm on my winter break from work. I have Win 10 Pro installed in Hyper-V. I also have Win 11 Home Beta and Linux Mint installed in VMware Player. At 66 years old the only thing I like about Winter is when it's over.

I totally understand and I look for things to do to keep me busy but I really don't need 10 anymore. It's nice but I like 11 more. When I get board I do some graphic art work or program..

Either way I find things to do.

Yes I agree, there are some company's that will not pay to upgrade to WIN 11, and rightly so if the OS they are currently using still meets all its expectations.

A: That's Microsoft's position exactly! That doesn't make it right.

A: Computer manufacturers that pump out units that are destined for home users DO pay MS for the OS (Gota love initials.), and even just Nation wide in the US or the UK, there's an awful lot of them. If a large number of businesses and private users stick with their Windows 10 computers and don't purchase new ones what happens to the industry. The trickle down effect from that scenario would be horrific. I myself refused to buy a new computer from a retail store after Windows 8 became the only OS they were sold with. Everyone that purchases a computer with an OS installed pays.

Don't worry. Even though business may be the majority, MS still makes a lot of money off the home user industry. Besides the OS, MS also makes scads of money in Marketing and (personal belief) data mining the home user. They are just easier to ignore.
I don't feel that MS should be given a license to ignore what users find that makes their life a little easier because what they dish out simply functions, and the cattle will soon come around. "It works, and you can function" should not be available as an excuse to make life even a little more difficult for a large number of people just because they can. Especially when "you used to be able to do that", and what they TOOK OUT affects not only some peoples productivity, but also the ability to actually enjoy the UI.

It's functional" should NEVER be an argument or an excuse. neither should I never used it so you shouldn't need it. ("Just do it the way "I" do it and stop your whiney little bitchin'". "My way is better anyway".) :wink:
