TPM compatibility on older M/B's

I have an older pc (9yrs old) that has a tpm header so i can put a module into it. As the M/B is 9 years old, tpm 1.2 was the only version. Would the m/b accept a 2.0 module or require a bios firmware update?

It may, but at 9 years old I'd bet your CPU wouldn't be compatible either.

aye mine is way off, hoping they'll accept more gens down the line.
Seems crazy that an xp laptop with half the ram it should have runs win10 fine for what I need but i can't install win11 with an i7-3370

I assume if the cpu is compatible then the m/b will be therefore you'll be fine and thus why i've found no info on installing tpm 2.0 on older m/b's

yup reading other pages here, looks like modules, motherboard companies, circuitry even 14-1 pin numbers are incompatible with each other, so no old with new. Really looks like a new m/b and cpu with fTPM is the only way forward.

It depends on whether the firmware TPM is flashable.

If it isn't you're probably stuck with 1.2. You can see whether your manufacturer's TPM Configuration Utility will let you complete an upgrade.

Unfortunately, 3rd gen Intel CPUs don't have firmware TPMs.

That said, Windows 11 can still be run on 3rd gen systems by simply bypassing the official requirements and accepting the fact that you are running in a technically unsupported configuration.

I don't run Win 10 any longer. Every machine I own is on Win 11 including systems a lot older than that 3rd gen system :-)

PCs made before 2013 don't have TPM at all and MBPs have never had them.

You do know there are such things as addon TPM cards? You don't say its a laptop, so I am guessing it could be used in your desktop, @SEP555

Checked on the HP forums? Must be others with similar issues, and HP also has a habit of making support threads in to support tickets...at least on the server sections.
