Solved TRIM on Multiple Internal Samsung 980 Pro Drives

if you only have a small amount of data to back up, you could then do the destructive conversion with disk management then restore what you backed up.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, there is only a very small amount of data on both drives. The only trick, I think, is that key folders (Documents, Pictures, and so on) and three OneDrives and an Adobe Creative Drive. The drives will likely have to be suspended. And I am not sure about the key folders. Anyway, I am sure that we will manage.

After we reformatted the drive and made it a Basic drive, the TRIM function worked.

Regarding the existing data, we moved it to the C drive before we did everything else. Documents, Pictures, Music and other similar files were moved using "Properties > Location" and moving them to the C drive. My three OneDrives were unlinked using "Settings > Account > Unlink this PC." My Adobe Creative Cloud Files folder just had to be pointed to a different location to move it: Bring up the Creative Cloud Desktop app > File > Preferences > Syncing > File location.

Then the technician converted the drives to Basic. We confirmed that the drives now Optimized using TRIM.

I then unwound the folder and file moves from the C drives to their proper locations. OneDrives were linked again.

In talking to the technician, he mentioned that their standard practice is to use Dynamic drives because many of their clients use RAID systems. In his belief, Dynamic drives offer more flexibility. My interpretation is that there is a certain amount of inertia. They have always used Dynamic and will continue to do so unless asked otherwise. That said, I think he was appreciative learning that Windows does not support TRIM on Dynamic drives.

Thank you to everyone who pitched in with their thoughts and expertise.
