I can't claim broad knowledge, but the laptops I've investigated in the past use their own heatsinking arrangements for M.2 drives.

Which makes M.2 drives with attached heatsinks not fit.

Yeah, it was a tight fit with the cover slightly pressing on it, but while I was trying to get it working, I was not screwing down the cover.

If heatsink drives are not a good fit why are they being made, unless it is specifically laptops that are the bad fit, and in that case, shouldn't there be a notation saying as much; Not recommended for use with laptops?

Since the purchase was going to be an investment, that is, I wanted to keep this drive for future laptops that I might purchase at lower storage capacities, and coupled with the fact that it is quite a few extra bucks being put out on a 'generic' 1TB; I thought, for not so much more than the regular drive, the heatsink would be a good part of the investment; especially, not realizing it would be a tight fit.

This laptop is something I plan to only use till somewhere like the end of the year.

l would really like to get a dedicated graphics laptop at that time.

I have decided to return the heatsink drive after some googling about heatsink SSDs with laptops, and have purchased the Samsung drive without the heatsink.
