Very long pause before bios post screen quandary

I just think you need to do a proper clean install and be done with it.
Buy a Samsung 870 EVO 500GB for windows, you`ll be done an hour after you get it :)(y)

I'm sure you are totally correct about buying a drive. I will try this one last thing. For me, it's a learning experience thing also.
I'll probably just do a clean install on the existing NVMe drive. Then recover what I need from a backup.

My suggestion is to rebuild the EFI partition. You must have a Win 10 or 11 installation drive to boot from.
Boot from the Win 10 or 11 installation drive. On the first screen launch a CMD window (Shift+F10). (simultaneously press the Shift + F10 keys on your keyboard when the installation wizard shows up).

diskpart
list vol (- take note which drive letter (may not be C: ) your Windows partition is assigned)
list disk (- take note the disk number -n- of the drive containing your EFI system partition
select disk n (- replace n with the drive identified above)
list par (- take note which partition - m- is the EFI System partition)
select part m (- replace m with the partition number identified above)
del part override
create part EFI size=100
format fs=FAT32 quick
assign letter=S
exit
bcdboot C:\Windows /s S: /f UEFI (- note may need to change C: to the drive letter identified with list vol)
exit
Performed this action. It deleted and created the EFI partition as specified and there is now a 100 mb EFI partition where the 800 mb partition
previously resided. It didn't affect the way the pc booted in any way. Nor did it affect the pause it takes before the bios posts.
The one thing different between what the pc came setup new and now is the addition of the NVMe drive I boot from.

My next move is to acquire another sata drive and install Windows 11 on it. I will also remove the NVMe drive completely. If that doesn't change anything I'm going to sell the problem ...err pc to someone else and build s new one .:sneaky:(y)

Thanks for all the help and education surrounding this unique issue.

I appreciate the thought, but that's half the fun is the building. My needs are not for overclocking or gaming. Not even that much for Hi Rez
video. I'm in it for sound. High as possible sample rates with few errors. Windows is kinda bad at that right now and I doubt seriously they will look at the sound side at any point. I'm sure they will design a well rounded tab for the folder the music is in. Anywho, The name of the game is low to no latency. High sample rates are nothing if the clock synchronization is causing errors. With the prices so high right now it will probably take me a few months to put what I want together. Thanks for all the help and if I change my mind and buy a prebuilt pc you will be the first person I contact.

Here is a capture of the Startup tab in Task Manager. I will post pics of the bios settings in a few minutes. I have disabled everything the
the startup tab and booted a couple of times like that. No improvement. I have also tried booting using legacy methods (with CSM) and the result was as I expected. No boot at all.

Here is the bios. I assume this is what you are wanting to see. Not much in the bios to see.

Those aren't pre-built.
Those are DIY/ :)
My mistake. You are absolutely correct. They most definitely....DIY. I remember the first one I built. Had a screaming fast AMD Athlon processor. Matter of fact I still have it and it works.

But if we're gonna go for truly ancient... HP Vectra VA (original Pentium Pro)
Still works. :D

Silly question, but I didn't see it mentioned...

After the firmware update, did you RESET the BIOS settings to defaults?

I would disconnect everything I could, including hard drives. Reset the BIOS settings. Finally, time how long it takes to get to the NO HDD DETECTED error message. If that is a long time, it's a BIOS setting issue.
