Weird boot error possibly caused by motherboard usb interface/new usb devices + external ssd freeze

Greetings all, hope you are having a great week so far.

I am posting here because google is of no help and confuses me even more.
I've been running windows 11 since the beginning of the year and so far I didn't have any issues, but some time in february windows refused to load until I switched an internal hard drive to another Sata port, after that all good. But recently the booting process is messed up for no reason again. Last week I was just powering on my pc as usual before I got hit with the " Looks like windows didn't load correctly" screen that contained options such as system recovery, reset and so on. I was able to boot successfully after I unplugged all usb devices, so I thought it was just a weird temporary issue, whatever right? Well it turns out now every time I boot up I get past the motherboard splash screen and get stuck at the spinning dots, then the PC just restarts itself and it works. Sometimes it does get stuck though and I have to restart it multiple times before it boots up correctly.
I recently purchased an external 2TB ssd and before I switched ports it used to freeze mid-transfer and crash my whole system. Something in my motherboard (MSI MPG x570) clearly is fussy about usb devices (hence the title of this thread) and I have a lot of USB devices, most of them connected via a TP link usb hub. I tried disconnecting all usb devices but it still gets stuck at boot, but as I've said, after one more restart it's usually fine. The external SSD works just fine when plugged into a backup w10 laptop I have, but when transferring large files (8gb+) it more often than not freezes and the whole system becomes unresponsive as a result.
I doubt it's just a minor inconvenience though, I am afraid this is just a matter of time until W11 bricks itself and I cannot access my files.
I tried resetting the bios, updating it to the latest version since there have been so far issues reported with zen 3 cpus and usb, but nothing seems to work. Also ran multiple bad sectors checks on the external ssd and no issues found, especially since I've tried it with another laptop and it worked fine there.
Sorry if it's a long read but tl;dr: Got a new external SSD, stuck at boot screen but after restart it works (somehow). Anyone having similar issues? Thanks!

I can not speak for your specific mobo but I have one system that refused to boot when any flash drive, bootable or not, is plugged in no matter what port I use, and no it's not my boot order. Windows boot manager is set as first boot. In the problematic system I went into bios and stopped it from booting from usb. Whenever I need to boot from usb, I go back into bios and enable usb boot. I do not believe I ever tested it with either of my 2 external hdds. I have also run across a few other systems in the past with the same issue.

In addition to @glasskuter's excellent advice, which is something I also do, you mention this:

most of them connected via a TP link usb hub

Try removing the hub from your computer completely for a few days and see if the problem persists. I have the X57- GODLIKE and it was tragically unable to boot when I daisy chained a Juiced Systems Vertex Pro hub with a standard jCreate USB 3.0 hub (from Best Buy). When I removed the jCreate, it still was being fussy - until I realized that the Vertex Pro was lost it's power (it has a switch that got bumped off). I only found this out after I bought another one lol.

With both powered, and connected to separate USB connections (Type_C at back i.o and Type-C from case) I have no issues.

So, if the computer boots fine without the TP Link USB hub, then, if it is powered, check the power adapter and make sure it is outputting enough voltage. If it is *not* powered, it may be time for a new hub.

If removing the hub does not solve your problems, then check Device Manager for any devices that are either 'Not started' or else showing an error (usually it is in other devices section, and will have a Yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it). But I suspect the hub, and it is easier to take out of the equation and test right away, so give that a go first, if disabling USB boot does not work.

Well... I don't know if this is of use to anybody but the problem seems to have resolved itself for the moment (as in, the past few days). I really didn't do anything different. 😬
