The program I am asking about is Attribute Changer which has an entry in the 'Context Menu'

When I find it.
Last week I did a test (for your other topic) and noticed that the portable version has no context menu at all.
I did that test again and even after a restart, no entries in the context menu are there.

So the context menu you are seeing must be from the installed version.

I would never to use a portable version of a program, having installed the same program as well. It is likely that something may conflict. Only for test purposes, on Virtual machines, I would trie that (as I have done now).

And it wouldn’t make sense for a portable version to be adding context menu entries. The whole point of portable versions are not to be there when you close them.

Why have you got an installed version and a portable version on the same device? Portable versions of any programs belong on a USB.

That's not true at all!
Some programs only are available in a portable version and have certainly big value.
And other programs can be 'installed' as portable program, nobody forbids that.

A list of some of the portable programs that I have on my normal hard disk, well organized:

I would not know why those programs would not be allowed to be stored somewhere on my system!
Then I would always be forced to insert an USB stick when I want to use such a program, why would I do that?

For instance: Radiosure only exists as portable program, is rather old but very effective for listening music all over the world.
I use it daily! I really would not know why to only have that on a USB stick...

I think you understood the meaning of 'portable' somewhat wrong.

The difference between the installed programs I use and the portable of those I have on USB Thumb drives is that the portables do not create icons, copy files to the drive, copy support files to the Windows folder and do not make Registry entries which Windows uses to know how to do its thing. Simply deleting the portable folder does not need an uninstall routine provided by installation of programs.

I also disagree with that statement.
The appropriate storage location for any portable program depends on the user's needs.
I have a couple of dozen portable programs on each of my computers*** and three on each of my Windows InstallUSBs.
*** Within a protected C:\Tools folder.

I have both installed version & portable Attribute Changer on my Win 7 computer. It has no internet connection, but is used frequently for music & video as it has a CD/DVD drive.
The installed version is older than the portable but the old version appears using the Context method.
