Solved Will TPM module added to my ASUS MB solve Win 11 install?

I don't think it is oversight so much as ... negligence. I make the case that they picked an arbitrary date and just excluded all CPUs released before that date - which coincidentally happens to be about a year after TPM 2.0 became an ISO standard.

I could full well be wrong, because there are are lot of CPUs on the listed as supported - and I don't have the full time to check them all right now. But that's my take on it.

That could be it. My AMD is a Ryzen 7-1700 which isn't on the list.

Probably the problem! Hard to believe an 8-core processor is disqualified.

The list was also as much BS for Win 7/8/10 but the CPU still were supported and you installed the OS fine.

AFAIK the Health Checker will be fixed going by the fact it has been reports it does not work fully and the DEV builds will install without issue even with no hard/soft TPM.

Probably best for me to lay low until things clear up. It does seem odd that MS would exclude so many PCs.

You can install the DEV build next week regardless, see the RED section above for even lower specs that will not get the final build.

Heh. My previous rig was a Core i7 965 EE with quad cores.

I really think they picked a date and said "Everything older, nope."

Well, sorta. Technically I wasn't supposed to be able to run Win 10 on my 965, either - the X58 mobo was BIOS, not EUFI, so no secure boot, and no GPT (for the boot drive). And yet.... I did. For over 5 years.

I did the "WhyNotWin11 v2.0.1.0. Yep, Ryzen 1700 is suspect & Secure Boot, for some reason I don't remember, is off. Need to turn on, I guess but I see no reason to replace a great CPU.

Where would I find the DEV build & would it be best to dual boot & keep Win 10?

Dev will be next week for Insiders via WU or you can grab the image from UUP Dump.

Even if TPM remains a requirement most likely the appraiserres.dll workaround will keep working. At the most It will need to be reapplied on larger updates, no more than a few times per year. I can live with that.

No way to know right now.

1. It's been 2 days since announced.
2. It's been just over a week since an unreleased leak was found. No official releases have been given to us by Microsoft.
3. It's still being developed - we don't know that these supposed reco0mmended minimum hardware requirements are final.

In addition, consider this:

1. COVID-19 is still affecting chip production and chips are still scarce.
2. Add to that climate also affecting chip production.
3. Add to that also, massive slowdown in international shipping
4. Add to that that almost every TPM module is suddenly sold out on major retailers.

Windows 10 will work through 14 October 2025. You have plenty of time to buy new components / upgrades - it's not even available for general use yet, and won't be for users until 2022 (or by some miracle, at the very end of this year).

And in case no one paid attention to what happens when there is high demand and low product - take a look at current 3rd party prices on nVidia 30x0 cards versus their MSRP.

Seriously. Stop trying to jump the gun for something that you may end up regretting because it was no needed at all.

Microsoft has also stated that even machines that do not meet the requirements can still install the DEV builds of Windows 11 until release.

So, right now, if you try to buy something that you don't even know if you really need, you're more than likely already helping out a filthy scalper.

I marked this post solved as all that was needed was to correct BIOS settings. A TPM module is not needed to pass Windows 11.

Apparently there's already a workaround. Just needs to be tested.

I wonder if Microsoft is ever going to start paying attention to workarounds and start developing blocks to the workarounds?

That would be interesting to see.... back and forth between techheads and geeks and Microsoft....lol.

They already do. It's called Microsoft Defender, and those pesky Windows Updates.

If you want to check that you've successfully turned on the firmware TPM, run the command "tpm.msc" (without the quotes.)

The problem is that your CPU isn't on the supported list. Maybe that will change before Win11 release, or it may be a "soft" requirement that would permit you to install 11 anyway. The whole CPU support thing seems like a mess at the moment, anyway. ZDNet

Well just in case I have an ASUS Prime X470-Pro. Had TMP Firmware, UEFI and Secure Boot enabled in BIOs but it still wouldn't show as enabled when I ran HWiNFO64 and kept failing the test. I then converted my primary drive from MBR to GTP and everything worked, all green across the board.

I only built my PC last year and mine fails due to the TPM 2.0 requirement.
My motherboard is a GIGABYTE X299X DESIGNARE 10G. I see that it has a TPM header.
I have never even thought about buying a TPM module before now.
This requirement is gonna knock a lot of PCs out.



The TPM module for my motherboard is GC-TPM2.0_S.
Everywhere I look, they are unavailable.
